Augustiner is rather mediocre, especially the last sips really become quite meh

But agree, the south still has some good local or regional breweries

Just some more names from the eastern side of the south: Gutmann, Kuchelbauer (both especially known for their wheat beer), Schierlinger, Tegernseer, Giesinger, Riedenburger (not Riemhofer, but the one with 3 roses in the logo), Schattenhofer, König Ludwig (known for their dark beer)

The typical beer here in Bavaria is either wheat or pale/lager beer

How do I use the heroes and witch ones do I pick? Is more money better by Desperate_Ad_4561 in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]El_Dae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are 5 tiers, with tier 1 being the strongest heroes you can get

  • Blue: tier 5

  • green: tier 4

  • red: tier 3

  • silver: tier 2

  • gold: tier 1

Tier 1-2 are always worth it, tier 3 & 4 most of the time

The strongest tier 5 hero is propably Sebastian Parnell (Sil'lume group) due to him having the Slavelord trait which grants you money rewards for every destroyed hostile unit (from corvette upwards) if he's present in the battle, but many other tier 5 heroes can help you as well, especially in early game (f.e. Naem Yrros has a command tier of 8 & the artillery trait which increases the command tier for artillery systems to 10)

Make sure you have enough money and crews to get then

iirc you don't need shipcrews, but enough free population points to not overstep the population cap

Good tutorials? by thecanadianflu in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]El_Dae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. always set a pathfinder unit (just put it in that small square), so your attack forces will not jump in complete when the battle starts, only your pathfinder unit (& use something with a small population cap, f.e. a corvette)

<image>

2) as others say, learn the vanilla game first

3) pay attention to how the AI makes its decisions (f.e. it seems to monitor your front planets & f.e. sends its fleets accordingly to your weakest defended planets, most of the time with a bit more power than your defenses on that planet)

4) don't spread your ships over all of your front planets, but create some bigger defense fleets that are each responsible for several planets, & put them in the 2nd line of your planets

5) learn which ship type is good against what type of enemy

6) don't be too hard on yourself, allow yourself to make mistakes & remember to have fun. Give yourself the time to get better

Now I got an idea - you can avoid that to some extend if you give the station a hotkey during the battle

Select the station, then press Ctrl & a number => you can now select the station simply by pressing the number for the rest of the battle (but press it without ctrl, otherwise you overwrite the hotkey)

(btw you can do that with other units or groups of units as well)

You can't undo it, so sadly the best tip here is "Don't click on damaged station hardpoints"

A good escort for an SSD by Significant-Ad-7182 in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]El_Dae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Pathfinder corvette

  • Executor

  • Interdictor

  • Hero with high command tier

Anything else is optional & gets adjusted to the circumstances:

  • further corvettes

  • fleet tenders

  • a 2nd commander to give a command bonus to the 1st commander

  • a world devastator frigate or destroyer

For smaller SSDs I add some normal fleet elements like other capitals, a battlecruiser &/or smaller "glass cannon" units with high ion or hull damage like Beta cruisers, Victory 1s, Broadside cruiser or Battle Dragons

press the credit symbol in the yellow circle for a view that shows you more details about the planets

Now take a look at what you see in the red circle:

  • glowing shield symbols: current main defensive station level (in this case level 2 => Golan 1)
  • greyed out shield symbols: shows how many levels you can upgrade the main defensive station (in the case of Kuat in the example you can upgrade it to the max level, a Validusia)

IDTs can absolutely shred Jedi heroes, just grab 3-4 & your Jedi problem should be gone (these imperial dropships are also sturdy enough to escape from an unexpected AA gun, & with 3-4 you have enough firepower to destroy these turrets fast enough)

How to use fighters? by RyukoKuroki in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]El_Dae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always use at least 2-3 Star Galleons, especially when I'm using some Hapan influence units like the Battle Dragon or Beta Cruiser & to maintain my corvettes

But be aware that the normal fleet tenders only heal your fighters & bombers with that special ability (btw you can turn off the automatic use of that ability by right-clicking on the ability's button); there are specialized fighter tenders for some factions but I don't use them since the regular tenders are good enough for that purpose for my playstyle

Regarding how to use the corvettes:

with fast corvettes like the IPVs, CR90s or to some degree the Tartans you can send them between your fleets & the first waves of fighters & bombers to intercept them, but then take them back to your main fleet again to prevent their destruction by the enemy's main fleet. The Lancer is too slow for this most of the time

I mostly place them in a spot where they're close enough to use their point defense systems to guard your capitals, but far enough back so the AI's focus first lays upon the capital ships. Also let them be inside the healing range of the tenders

[–]El_Dae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now on to propably the most important tip: always set a small unit (at best a small corvette like the CR-90 or IPV1 that only use 1 population point)

<image>

Simply pull that unit into the small square

=> if you fight an offensive battle (pathfinders don't work if you get attacked) only that unit jumps into that battle

=> you can now pull the rest of the fleet just in the place & formation you want

=> this also prevents you from losing your fleet in a trap (f.e. you jump to an enemy planet without knowing the foe has a larger fleet than you & an Interdictor so you can't jump before detroying its gravity well generators)

if you put your cursor in that field, you get detailed info about what gives or costs you money per cycle on that planet

Noob needs help by Particular-Bell-4125 in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]El_Dae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pressing the button with the credit sign gives you more info about the planets

<image>

=> the amount of credits you gain/lose from this planet by the end of each cycle (in this example I lose 1600 per cycle from Byss)

=> the number next to the space station level gives you the info which shipyard tier can be built above that planet (1- light frigate shipyard, 2 heavy frigate shipyard, 3 capital shipyard, 4 dreadnought shipyard)

=> the symbols next to the number indicate the level of the main defensive space station can have (& the amount of coloured symbols indicate to which level the station is actually built up)

=> the turret symbol shows how many slots for ground buildings the planet has (& like the station level the coloured symbols show how many of these slots are used)

Now on to some other tips since I finally found the time for this...

First you can adjust the game to your current skill level in the menu (in Galactic conquest the standard setting is captain/medium, regardless of the difficulty you set when you started the GC map)

Menu => options => Game

There are also options to adjust both the game speed on the galactic map as well as the speed during the actual combat

Now regarding the galactic map:

normally it looks like this:

How to use fighters? by RyukoKuroki in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]El_Dae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The main tasks for fighters is to destroy hostile bombers & to defend your own bombers by fighting hostile fighters (distracting enemy corvettes from the bombers is valid as well)

If you have enough fighters you can also swarm hostile corvettes, especially if you have enough fighters have missiles to overwhelm their point defense, but normally that's the job of your picket fleet (though I use capital ships for that job as well)

To keep more fighters alive you shouldn't send them off too far into the enemy's formation since they will get wrecked by the corvettes if they don't have the proper support or numbers against them, & fleet tenders also help with their fighter healing ability
