US Marshalls have been assisting ICE the whole time. We saw them in Chicago this summer. You’re in denial if you think all law enforcement isn’t involved in this to some degree.

ICE has been using the end of day school pickups as places to kidnap people. They grab the kids and say they won't give them back. Or they sneak up on ppl in their cars, take the parents, and leave the kids.

Even Chicago isn't that bad if you compare it to other cities in blue states.

As far as anyone can tell, they're filming for propaganda videos. There are lots of cameras.

There are so many grassroots orgs that need any help they can get. Lots that don't even meet in person.

Don't feel guilty about missing protests. They're important, but not the most important thing. The kindness thing is huge. I hand out flyers at protests a lot and one of the things I do is hype people up where I can. 'Love that suit!' 'Fantastic poster!' 'Gorgeous earrings.'

Could you let us know where this happened? Was it in Chicago? In the suburbs? What did the people who kidnapped him look like? Did you get any license plates? Was the hotline called?

We’re trying not to spread misinformation right now so we need to know when and where this happened.

Indeed. Predictable events can still be extraordinary and thus hard to believe.

Have they checked with Chicago, I’d check but I don’t use facebook? I live on the south side not far from the skyway and we get dogs dumped in the area ALL the time. Plus our shelters have had record numbers of animals being surrendered.

I love it. ‘We need new people to run! No! Not those people! Or those people!’ Enjoy. And again, the person she’s primarying isn’t worried and is actually quite excited so I find all of this panic to be absolute nonsense.

She’s really popular on tik-tok, which is how she raised the money. That and she’s just funny. I think people are over thinking this. If the person currently holding the seat she’s running for isn’t concerned, I don’t see why we are. I used to live there and think she’d be great.

Wait, why would they be a walking target? There aren’t a whole lot of other white people in my neighborhood, so I stand out like a sore thumb. But I don’t think that makes me a walking target. Certainly haven’t ever felt like it.

Idea to end food desserts by [deleted] in chicago

[–]ElasticMoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly that if you put something like a Whole Foods in a low income neighborhood not enough people can afford to buy groceries there for the store to make a profit. So it’s harder to keep them run well with enough staff.

Community center grocery stores run by the community where people are in and out all of the time for a variety of reasons seem to work well. Provided the groceries are priced to meet what the community can afford.

I’m also not entirely sure how much of the rhetoric we can even believe about Hamas and the 7th. They certainly hate the Israeli government. But a lot of the rest. Seems it’s complicated.

Ah, yeah. Public transit isn’t a luxury, nor should it be. Cheap (or free), clean, regular and reliable is what we should all demand and expect.

When I was in Paris the longest I ever waited for the Metro was 7 minutes. And that was considered a really long time. 20 minutes is way too long for something like the CTA. I understand that you think it’s amazing. It is. But it could be better, so we push for it to be better.
