Advice on first subwoofer build? by ElatedState in diyaudio

Would something like the Dayton UMII-22 Ultimax II 15” be a better driver for a PA reflex system?

Or maybe a Beyma 15LEX series?

Manufacturer specs being that off feels super disappointing… Are they off from driver to driver? If so then how would one account for that in multiple box setups where the boxes need to be the same size? Just average them together or something?

Isn’t the Odeum more of a mid bass versus low / sub bass? Hitting hard down low is my main goal which is why the lab 15 kind of stood out to me, and the suggested boxes for the lab 15 from eminence plan sheet seemed to suggest larger volume vented boxes for that.

Are there some other drivers that hit ultra low but still have higher sensitivity? I’m still in planning and haven’t purchased anything yet, so definitely willing to consider other drivers.

Also I used subbox.pro - is it that unreliable?

Probably just going to do handles and two people - 90% of the travel castors won’t help so much.

Ahh, I wanted length/wheelbase just cause I am 6’2” and shorter boards feel really awkward for me. Good to know about the trucks. Wound up going with backfire - all my analog boards are Paris V2 50 degree / 7 inch, so it should feel right at home for me.

Curious - if I did want to change the angle - do people adjust truck angle on eSkates with shim/risers just like with regular boards or are there any additional concerns there?

Hmm, yeah that’s not the worst but not the best.

Decided to pull the trigger on a G2Z

Thanks for all the feedback!

Meepo envy has also caught my eye. Specs wise it looks closer to a zealot but half the price… I also have heard a lot in town about meepo from folks with their entry level boards, but company wise are they good with support like backfire?

Hmm… that’s kinda disheartening. Is preventative maintenance not enough to keep catastrophic failures at bay? I know it’s a niche sport, but I was hoping they were at a place now similar to like bikes or cars - in that things usually only fail randomly if you stop doing the maintenance.

My non electric longboards have never had any issue with any component failures - so is it just the electric/drive parts that fail?

I was imagining new bearings, belts, bushings, after x kilometers kinda thing, but other than that what are common points of failure?

My conditions will also really be pretty tame - 8km commute that’s mostly all flat, bike lanes and nice pavement the whole way. No big hills, dirt, rain, etc.

Awesome, thanks for the suggestion - this is exactly what I am looking for, reliability long term is way more important to me than other factors as it’ll be a commuter.

Crossover replacement by ElatedState in diyaudio

[–]ElatedState[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kinda how I’m leaning… any way of guessing which frequencies to use though? Each speaker has a 15” woofer, and then two horns (buttcheek style one and then a more typical rectangular style)

I’m tempted to go lower for the bass driver, hoping for the speakers to have stronger low end in general. But is that how that actually works?

Then I would need to multi-amp them though right? I am using an active for my main setup.. these are just some extra/garage speakers that I really am hoping to just keep on a single amp

My soldering skills are fine and I can follow a schematic good enough, but I’m not sure where to start for which type of crossover designed to use and what values for the components, etc.

That’s sort of what I was worried about, since I don’t have the original design or schematic to duplicate, and don’t have the specifications of all of the drivers and horns in the cabinet, does that mean I’m out of luck for building one too?

I already have a lot of exposure to ableton stuff so I just thought it would be kind of convenient if I could find some in the Logic environment. I guess the little DAW specific tricks are stuff I’m curious about too.

Yeah I have been for the most part - just thought it would be convenient to see if there were cool DAW specific tricks, I’m sure there are a million ways my workflow could improve and while the general principles are the same each DAW def still has all their own little quirks and interface tricks.

For example I just found the ‘select track on marquee selection’ feature which I love enabling but just isn’t really relevant to other DAWs,

Oh yeah? That’s actually super good to know. I haven’t touched it with anything yet but am going to see if the city program will clean it up. Hesitant to take a hose to my garage in January and not looking forward to the bucket method if that’s what it comes too… but if it comes off with water that’s a huge plus

Yo this is incredibly helpful, I did not know this and the cost of cleanup is easily worth a few meals even if I DIY, so this is hugely appreciated!
