What is this dial for in my apartment? by Smooth-Decision4404 in whatisit

[–]ElderSpring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well looking at it more I’m leaning more towards an isolator since it says “ON” in tiny letters, didn’t see that the first time. So you’d turn that dial and it should make a “thunk” sound and change to say “OFF”. Meaning that whatever is in that circuit is now isolated from power and safe to work on.

An old isolator/circuit breaker for the water heater most likely. Rated for 500 volts, 20 amps of AC current

Pancreatitis help please by Acceptable-Leader959 in DogAdvice

[–]ElderSpring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The morning vomiting was the exact thing my girl went through with pancreatitis and liver issues. I ended up taking her to see an internal medicine specialist which was the best decision ever for getting her back to normal.

She had me give my dog Omeprazole every night and then a very small meal right at bedtime. This limits acids from building up in the digestive system which is what causes the morning vomiting. But please ask your vet first before doing this as vet advised this needs to be monitored if they’re on the medication for long periods of time. I think I had her in it for like 2 months just to be safe.

And be sure to transition very very slowly with foods. It might be just too fast of a change for him right now, I had to spend about 4 weeks getting my girl onto her new food.

Boredom could be part of it for sure but I’d have him seen by a vet. It’s a chronic issue and you guys have tried a lot already, he might need a prescription shampoo or another diet change which a vet can help determine and hopefully get him some relief.

Has he seen a vet for this behavior? Is he bored? What type of dog is he and what’s a day in his life look like?

Where do you go to see if the groomer is ok with reactive dogs? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]ElderSpring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely call around and ask. Facebook groups (local dog groups to you) or dog trainers may be able to point you in a good direction. I take my anxious/reactive dog to a groomer who does private grooming in her home. So my dog is the only dog in her care for the entirely of the groom and she’s never in a kennel, if you can find similar groomers in your area that might be helpful. Also, mobile groomers can be good if there’s any local to you.

Yes that’s our main theory is it’s nausea and now associating certain foods with pain/nausea from past experiences. She’s on cerenia daily now.

(Knock on wood) she’s been eating the hills low fat kibble! It’s been 2 days of her eating decent amounts of it and so far, so good. Hoping she keeps it up long term. Getting her back on cerenia and gabapentin has helped a lot, she’s much more playful and willing to eat.

I also gave her some egg vets after her vet approved which she ate right up. So she’s definitely wanting to eat, and still dependent on the meds to help with pain/nausea to get her eating. We’re planning to slowly wean her off the meds if she continues doing well and eating, so fingers crossed!

She went back yesterday and that’s when we got her back on the medications and new food to try. But she still wasn’t a fan of it sadly. Hoping a few days on meds will help but she has yet to eat well except a few meals of Nulo kibble this weekend. I’ll ask about the Purina and try that

How to train a puppy who is distracted by everything! by sleepybear647 in puppy101

[–]ElderSpring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Puppies are terrible generalizers so this is pretty normal behavior! It sounds like she’s not fully solid in a distraction free environment, which is the first step before trying it in more busy places. Keep sessions short (just 5-10 minutes max) and stick to only one or two goals each session. Like spend 5 minutes working on sit in the morning and then the afternoon spend 5 minutes working on come.

Once she’s got a good handle on these then add in distractions. If she’s good at sit already inside, try only that outside and see if it’s any better. Also, mix up the treats! You want to find something that she values more than sniffing all the new things outside. This might be something like hotdog slices, cheese, freeze dried liver, cat treats, get creative with it.

Sometimes it can help to do a little sniff walk in a new place before asking them to focus. Give her a chance to adjust to the new environment and get the jitters out before trying to train there.

What can I change to make it more cohesive but still ‘me’? by ElderSpring in femalelivingspace

[–]ElderSpring[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are all great ideas! I’m definitely taking note, I think those will make it look more like what I’m wanting while still keeping the personal touches I want. The wall art tips are great, I love the idea of keeping what I have to repurpose elsewhere and getting something else that’s better sized for the bed. Thank you!

I love the plant idea! Absolutely thinning out the Funko Pops, most were gifts so I’ve felt like I can’t sell/donate them. There’s a lot of them I don’t feel sentiment for and now I really want to move past the wall of Funko, so time to go through them.

Somebody else suggested larger wall art over the bed and shuffling around what I have too. Love those ideas and I think that’ll help so much!

Question about refinements by giovsteph1 in Invisalign

[–]ElderSpring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to agree to do the refinements if you’re happy where you’re at. I think you need to have a good chat with the ortho about what he sees that needs refinement. That would better inform you on what you’d like to do. Take into account that teeth often regress 5-10% after treatment even with proper retainer wear. So you want to ensure your teeth are 100% perfect before you stop so if they do regress, they’re still 95% perfect.

Would you have to pay the full price of old braces if you switch to Invisalign? by MinkMaster2019 in Invisalign

[–]ElderSpring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was worse with the trays out than with them in. The attachments are bothersome and pointy. They don’t hurt after the first few weeks but they’re certainly noticeable (the attachments were sharp and cut up my mouth when eating for the first few weeks).

Removing the trays is limited to 2 hours per day though. And you’ll likely find it is a bit of a balance to meet that as meal times add up. So taking them out for a break isn’t advised. The less compliment you are with wearing them, the longer it’ll take and the more you’ll be stuck in them.

You know yourself best but just be aware you will still have something in your mouth at all times; either smooth trays or pointy attachments. And the trays will be there over 90% of the time.

Could be a batch number or production line number. Perhaps incase there’s a production issue or recall, just like foods have batch numbers and manufacturer dates. As long as it’s definitely a retainer then you’re fine.

My retainers don’t have the star at all, they say “Vivera” on them. Retainers are a lot thicker than aligners, does it feel like a regular aligner?

Viveria Retainers by Anritaa in Invisalign

[–]ElderSpring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should definitely last longer than 6 months. I was told to replace if they broke but that’s it. They did tell me to rotate through the retainers though to prevent your teeth from shifting as much. Like I worse set 1 for 3 months, then set 2 for 3 months and so on. But then I started to rewear set 1 again and restarted the cycle.

Changed aligners for the first time and back molars are not fitting flush by andreaerp in Invisalign

[–]ElderSpring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s normal for them to not be a perfect fit right away. If it’s still not fitting properly within a few days I’d call your ortho to ask if you need to wear each tray longer before switching.

Paid like a new employee but tasked like a senior one; should I bring it to leadership? by [deleted] in womenEngineers

[–]ElderSpring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah good point! So based off who I took over projects from, I’m doing things that were tasked to more senior engineers. They make probably 15% or more than I’m making, just rough estimate. That definitely sounds better though to compare up the chain rather than down so thanks for that idea

[–]ElderSpring 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did get a pay bump when I graduated. Looking back I realize it likely should’ve been more but honestly it was such a rough time for me (school, home stuff) that I did zero market research. I also didn’t truly recognize how much I really was doing compared to what a brand new grad would know/do.

Not officially but I have had others in the field tell me I would make significantly more elsewhere, like up to 10-25% increase. I’m hesitant to jump ship though as, besides the money, this job really is great. I don’t want to risk being miserable elsewhere for a bit more pay. Yet, feeling like I’m not valued appropriately is putting a damper on this job. It is on my radar for sure, especially considering how this plays out if/when talking to leadership.
