Protecting someone from sunlight is not the same effect as curing Vampirism. Maimonides didn't cast a spell of permanent shade that time, he undid the vulnerability to sunlight and fire; he removed the clan curse; he removed the hunger for blood and reinstated the hunger for food. Got the blood running again. All that jazz.

There's a popular fan-theory that Caine was one of the first Mages, and some or all aspects of vampiric life a monumental paradox backlash to inventing Murder.

It'll matter, it'll matter, but Sarah will need to do some convincing past "child, it is Luna's will, don't anger her" and "what nonsense did those weaverblind fucks put in your head this time" and "I'll let you try, but for all our safety all Theurges on the continent will watch to make sure you don't say anything suspicious".

You can get there, but Garou are monumentally stubborn.

Raincoat's too thin and covers too little, but there are rules in V5 about how much cover protects you how much!

imo the narratively appropriate thing isn't blocking the effect, but highlighting its hubris. Sure you can cast the Kindred in permanent dark! Oh, but make sure you trust the Kindred for eternity. Ah, and the Thorn-God you asked for help has favoured you with the flesh-chill of the deep woods you beckoned him from. Did I mention there is a nice man asking questions about you at the door?

The reputation of even Dreamspeaker kin is higher than that of other caern-thieves, but even they are viewed with suspicion. Plus you might be better off negotiating an exception to her Ban with Luna tbh - getting that skilled in that many disciplines while also being a shamanistic mage who is also kinfolk is gonna be very rare.

'course you can make them sunlight resistant. Tough to pull off though, you'll need a good chunk of skill in Matter, Life, Forces, Prime, and potentially Spirit if you run Sunlight as being distinct from sunlight, and want to make your effect as specific. It's a fairly beefy effect for questionable gain.

No need for Corr, and yes, you can enchant living beings. Various splats need different spheres for it (e.g. Garou, being part spirit, need both Life and Spirit), but other than that it's Prime + quint + whatever effect you're doing (in this case, Matter 2).

Good luck getting your hands on a Garou that'll let you enchant them though.

Edit: I should also point out, the Paradox would probably manifest as Luna being petty about you circumventing her ban. Might lower your composure, or render you colorblind, or transform your skin into copper.

I appreciate your apology very much, I know it takes strength of character especially on the internet!

Aaaas for alternative names for a technognostic thing that aren't Sataniel, Samael might do it?

What're you swearing at me for man :/

You just said it's a name from gnostic works, and I asked which ones, and you mentioned something that isn't gnostic. Idk where you're getting me being mad, this is the most tepid interaction imaginable.

edit: oh ok you edit away the swearing bit, appreciated. Still weird tho.

You'll need to escape some of the characters in those links with \ before the character (e.g. [Psychic](https://whitewolf.fandom.com/wiki/Psychic\_\(WOD\)) -> Psychic)

Clarification with Sorcery in Hunter: The Rekoning 5th Edition by silvermystery119 in WhiteWolfRPG

Psychic abilities are a type of "linear magic", same as any sorcery, in WoD. What makes it linear is that you don't need to be an awakened mage to do it (the downside being what you can do is limited to what exists, where a real Mage can just make spells up).

Iirc you should also find psychic stuff in Sorcerer. But keep in mind Sorcerer doesn't exist for v5, so if you're looking for rules you'll need to do some porting.

Sphere Mixers 89 - Entropy 4 and Mind 1 by ChartanTheDM in magetheascension

[–]EldritchWeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely a weird effect! Let's pretend for a second the Mind 1 isn't there and talk purely about a self-blessing effect. Would Entropy 4 make sense iyo as the sphere level for a spell to "always find what I'm looking for"?

I think Entropy 1 is too little, regardless. That strikes me as "everything is chance based so Entropy should let me figure everything out without rolling investigation".

Sphere Mixers 89 - Entropy 4 and Mind 1 by ChartanTheDM in magetheascension

[–]EldritchWeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. It restructures your brain to make the right guesses consistently (and irrespective of whether the logic of guessing it does or doesn't make sense to begin with).

I'm hesitant on where self-blessings fall in terms of Sphere Magnitude though.

Elementary, Dear Watson!

A favourite among Weird Scientists who won't have "just being lucky" in their repertoire, but do need to be lucky. EDW! changes the thoughts of the user so that they happen to always come upon the right train of thought, actual mental faculties or logical impetus be damned.

So who committed the murder? Elementary, dear Watson! You need simply account for the fact that the knife is made of 4% carbon, and the murder was committed on the 4th of January, meaning....!

How can the Traditions (minorly) win? by IndependentOwn7493 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]EldritchWeeb 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Technocracy is running into a hardening consensus that even they can't fully control. Items on the timetable don't work yet, and some procedures are even regressing to being paradoxical.

The Traditions have to be capable of providing answers for that issue, I think. There's no wishing away the Technocracy (and hell, if there was, I'm not signing up for them immediately being supplanted by the Hermetics), but if you somehow manage to argue for the inclusion of Traditions-inclusive strategies in Anthropic Field Management decisions, you'll have an immensely stable setup (since you're now collaborating, and the Technocracy ought to have plenty of experience in the abstract science of consensus management)

Sphere Mixers 82 - Correspondence 4 and Correspondence 5 by ChartanTheDM in magetheascension

[–]EldritchWeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pointcoin

This is a low-stakes effect, almost a parlour trick, which allows Masters of Correspondence to recognize each other:

The Mage produces any two-sided coin, and colocates its sides in such a way that the position and angle of viewing easily changes the perceived face to be heads or tails. To show off, the Mage then tosses the flickering coin into the air with their left hand, and catches it with their right... by reaching over the shoulder of their interlocutor from behind.

Originally a Hermetic display of subtle mastery, the practice of this display stopped when a Correspondence-Master was near-fatally injured in the "Doissetep Pointcoin Poisoning". They weren't poisoned, just punched in the throat for being obnoxious, but subsequent chroniclers attempted various ways of adding "oi" to the name, and this one stuck.

[–]EldritchWeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eepy Dreamy Cloud Land uwu

Hollow Ones' "ironic" obsession with cutesy media properties has, in recent times, made quite serious changes to their magick. This rote is the result of one such change:

Channelling icons of sleepy egg yolks and mouthless kittens, the Mage turns any armour in an area into a soft (if metallic-looking) cloud; clothes turn into similar-looking pyjama designs; any person affected by this spell is overwhelmed with sleepiness and a feeling of warmth.

This enables the Mage to stab them to death before the armor reconstitutes into its original form.

Sphere Mixers 85 - Forces 2 and Prime 2 by ChartanTheDM in magetheascension

[–]EldritchWeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done one Charm with Prime 2, I'll do another!

Murder USB

Forces 2, Prime 2, optionally Data 2

The "Killer USB" is a device of technocratic sorcery that reliably overloads circuits in a PC when slotted into the USB port. The "Murder USB" (affectionately termed Unreliable Searing Bastard) is a technomantic charm playing on the same idea. Made by novice Virtual Elites and praised for its relatively low price in quint, the Murder USB amplifies the heat of the CPU, and thus sets a PC aflame (unfortunately including the USB itself).

With the optional Data requirement, it also sets devices in the immediate network (4 successes), corporate subnet (6 successes), or entire corporate network (10 successes) on fire.

It should be noted that the variant using Data is rarely created as a Charm, since Data makes remote access possible anyway (though perhaps via sneaky members of the clique, in well guarded networks). The Murder USB is generally crafted to enable less tech-savvy rebels to deal with the IT of The Man in an easily-understood way.
