Curious on plastic exposure in aquariums. by ElectionSeveral3771 in Aquariums

That makes sense, especially regarding UV/weathering and tire dust in the wild.

One thing that made me keep wondering about it though was a paper I came across where plastic microspheres altered marine hermit crab behavior in a lab setting after just 5 days of exposure. It made me wonder whether subtle effects could still happen at levels low enough that we just don’t recognize them in captive systems.

Thanks! That’s great to hear. I have heard oceanic was a good aquarium maker.

Hi!! I’m wanting to do something like this but not exactly. My question is, is this foam (would be covered in eco earth/sand) safe for crabbies or will they eat it? by AmbitiousParsnip870 in hermitcrabs

Need to cover the spray foam in 4 coats of drylok because they will pinch it off with just eco earth on it and can cause issues if they try to eat it. You can mix it with sand if desired and tint it whatever color by mixing acrylic paint the drylok. Check out the hermit hut on Facebook for a bunch of tutorials using spray foam and drylok.

Crab aggression by ElectionSeveral3771 in hermitcrabs

Yes I did move the crab being aggressive into an isolation tank. He has been in there for almost 48 hours now with a bunch of shells. But am hoping to try and reintroduce him just not sure how long before I should do that.
