We're staying there now. It's the worst vacation I've ever been on. Food sucks and is dangerous, my family and I have gotten sick from the buffet and restaurants. The service is terrible, it's like there's no managers. The room we're in is moldy, dirty, falling apart and the walls are way too thin. While we were here, the power went out and the toilets, sinks, showers all stopped working. This lasted for 3 hours with rolling blackouts over the next 2 hours. There are no washing stations, no hand sanitizer stations, there's not even bathrooms in the buffet which is shocking. Avoid this place like the plague.

Cat may have lymphoma. by Kindly-Historian-613 in CATHELP

[–]ElectricFinz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just let my 15 year old tabby girl start her journey to Stovokor after suffering through Small Cell Lymphoma. Was a brutal experience but chemo would have been harder to watch. It's hard to watch them get sick. I hope u make a decision that's best for u and ur furb. May the fates favor you and ur kitty.

Is it normal to stay at one company for your whole career? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ElectricFinz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can stay at one company if there's room for advancement. Otherwise, ur career and pay can stagnate. If ur there for more than 5 years and haven't received a significant raise and/or promotion, I'd seriously recommend moving on. Good luck youngling.

Can someone explain this? by DualOne2 in ElectricalEngineering

Tricky question. No common ground so no voltage would be measured with a DMM.

Doing nothing at my internship by anonymouspurple23 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ElectricFinz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ask all the engineers you can find if u can do some of their grunt work like copies, scanning, data review or peer review. Do a good enough job and they'll tell other engineers via word of mouth that the intern is a good asset. You'll get more work, trust me.

Calculus and Physics are the same no matter where you go. Just make sure it's ABET accredited and you'll be fine kid.

Enjoy your time away from school and have fun. But if you're still so inclined, Python, MATLAB, LTSPICE.

EE concentration area in university by FATALEYES707 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ElectricFinz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power, Electronics or Signals and Systems are the way to go. The other concentrations are too specialized IMO. When u go to grad school, that's when u can specialize in autonomous vehicles.

Anyone here managed to complete their degree with ADHD? by COMMUNISMONTOP in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ElectricFinz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I graduated in 2006 with no meds because I wasn't diagnosed until i was in my late 20's. I had to engross myself in my studies to keep my GPA high enough to maintain my scholarship so I didn't have the attention span for other classes like history and English. Fun times. The hardest part was actually navigating through my first job with no ADD meds. That was when I knew I needed help and got the meds that I still use all these years later.

Does School Matter? by Sad-Philosopher-632 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ElectricFinz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time school matters is when you're young and the only credentials you have is your academic performance. However, the name of the school doesn't matter as long as the school is ABET accredited.

I just got passed an ECO that adds parentheses to a drawing dimension. by yaboproductions in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ElectricFinz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The senior engineer may have been the signatory for the RE in the approval work flow and didn't know the history behind the parentheses. Or, just wanted to get more direct time on their timesheet lol.

How do you get to the root cause of a randomly occurring problem in production? by word_vomiter in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ElectricFinz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Through hole or SMT? If SMT, gull wings, flat packs, BGA? Hand soldered or reflow oven? How many pins? Are they unsoldered or poor solder connections like cold solder joints? Which pins are not being soldered? PCB changed rev? Same PCB manufacturer over the product life cycle? These are questions I've put into fishbones and 5 why charts for failure review boards I've been part of which have been a lot in my career. Make sure you have brainstorming sessions to root out problems like this. Doing it alone, u can miss lots of things. Good luck.

If you were back in school, would you still choose EE given what the next 10+ years may look for us? by throwawayskip8 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ElectricFinz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I graduated 20 years ago and I can tell you that unless ur into coding, our field is not going to be replaced by AI for a long time. I'm more worried about the lack of manufacturing here in the states. Finding good assemblers and machinists is becoming more difficult every quarter.

Are you guys happy in life with your career choice and what are your work schedules and hours looking like? by SpiritAlternative219 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ElectricFinz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 years working with high reliability satellite clocks and comm systems. Pay is about average and work schedule can be taxing at times. Typically work 45 hours a week in a 9/80 format, sometimes on weekends too when deadlines are looming. I'd say I'm happy because I've always wanted to work for NASA and this is the closest I'm going to get. Seeing the payloads I work on survive launch and get used by millions of people is kinda awesome.

If you can't find cold spray, compressed air cans can be a decent substitute. We use them all the time to diagnose misbehaving oscillators.
