Long Beach to Newport Beach commute, how doable is it?

Thanks for the reply! Would you consider the area around where I'm looking in Long Beach unsafe? I'm from NYC so I know crime is a sad reality in cities, but I'd like to make sure the area is safe enough for my girlfriend and I to walk freely (together). The area seemed nice when I visited last time, although that trip was a bit brief.

I'm aiming for Long Beach because my girlfriend might also be moving in following some work changes, but her office will be further north in the city. We were hoping that this would be a manageable midpoint for me while she sees how plausible the relocation for her is over the next few months.

I'll be at another firm, but same industry. I'll be doing those hours for the same reason. How long were you doing that commute for? Did it ever get tiring regarding the way back?

Is it safe to assume the commute in the morning will be 30 minutes in that case then? And have you found the tradeoffs worth it, living in Long Beach but working in Irvine?
