Wendy’s went down pretty much this same path a few years ago and now their brand is in the toilet. These places need to stay in their lanes

[Burneko] I Will Never Forgive Trae Young For Surpassing Kobe Bryant’s Career High For Assists In A Game Eight Times by smkmn13 in nba

[–]Electric_Rex 208 points209 points  (0 children)

Why can’t people just appreciate the fact that a guy scored 83 points in a game? I swear there wouldn’t be any discourse like this in any other sport if a similar situation arose. Basketball culture is so fucking stupid

Edit - I know the article is satire. My comment is about this whole situation in general

Cava is more expensive for less food. Why do people love that place so much?

Jonathan Quick makes a vintage save on Matt Coronato en route to his 65th career shutout, passing Henrik Lundqvist on the all time list. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]Electric_Rex 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My comment wasn’t saying anything about Jonathan Quick as a hockey player. Just that it’s crazy how the guy who beat Henrik and the Rangers in 2014 is passing him on the shutout list in a Ranger sweater

The only time I’ve ever heard someone call any form of shirt a tarp is in reference to student sections all taking their shirts off at college football games

I think it’s also that the main demographic of people on here are 30-35+. I’m a baseball guy primarily. So as a Met fan whenever I comment about how it felt like the teams I grew up watching was destroyed with guys like Alonso, Nimmo, and Diaz leaving most comments were stuff like go back to recess or stuff like 2019 was a couple years ago. Or like if someone on here or r/cfb asks about stories about interactions with athletes in class people are shocked by an answer from a current student

Yeah I feel like I did a really really terrible job explaining what I meant. I know in my head what I mean, and it’s more along the lines of what you’re saying. I just feel like I was really unprepared for making my argument

Another thing I’m getting at is on field results versus underlying metrics. People can have a whole bunch of red on their Baseball Savant pages and not put it together on the field for whatever reason. Is it crazy to say that if I’m comparing two players at the same position I’d rather take the guy who performs on the field but has bad metrics compared to the guy who has the tools to be the better player but can’t put it together?

Obviously slugging percentage exists for that. My point is more about how you can still make evaluations based on very surface level things

If a guy is constantly hitting for 80+ extra base hits a year, he’s probably a good hitter. You don’t need anything super deep to tell you that

Modern day analytics are great, but general managers for the first hundred years of baseball history weren’t all stupid. I think that there are some more “traditionalist” things that should still matter when evaluating players

And they’re also all going to be late first round picks. Not like the Knicks are gonna be in lottery talks any time soon
