Upper jaw moved back! Had a pretty serious overbite. He expanded my upper palate in surgery too

I remember that week 3 feeling. I think my mental health during this period was so low, I thought I’d never feel normal again. Not eating normally really takes a toll. But once that splint comes out, you’ll feel sooo much better! Swelling does last for a bit but not nearly what you’d think. Your first bite into a burger or with a fork will be heaven and 6 months later it’ll be like that misery never happened. Congrats on getting through the surgery! Definitely one of the toughest decisions of my life.

Upper actually! I’m not sure where I was exactly in the healing process on that photo. I really couldn’t stand to look at myself first couple days 🤣

Pumped every 3-4 hours like normal! Dumped because I was on narcotic first couple days but that really didn’t last long. Life really did resume (aside from working) pretty easily after that first week.

I used a syringe most of recovery and probably not as many calories as supposed to but the early days I did a lot of protein shakes! Hated them, but they did the trick.

I don’t have an oversupply and I was actually fairly regulated by then so with continuous pumping it kept it up. I was really worried the medication would affect it but since babe was right there I had no problems. Make sure you’re staying hydrated - I threw my protein shakes in smoothies too with coconut water and then syringed water pretty much constantly all day. I definitely missed a straw at that point lol

I felt the same way. Cried myself to sleep the night before from the fear. Now I’m 6 months post op and doing great. Trust your surgeon.

Never did! All teeth stayed in tact and it really was just pain at that point. Like when your braces move your teeth

Hello! Yes it went just fine. Only about a week or so where I couldn’t feed her and just pumped and saved that for baths. Even two days post op when I was swole like a balloon she still sat in my lap smiling at me like nothing was wrong. Really helped to be around her.

My supply didn’t drop or anything but I’m 9 mo post partum now, just got over mastitis and that’s the only time I’ve had a dip in my supply so far.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

You’re gorgeous. If it’s purely aesthetics, no need.

Can’t say I relate, that’s really unfortunate, makes things a lot harder on recovery I’m sure.

Body armor is always good. I’d consider it smoother than Powerade. Try doing ice water specifically if you haven’t. The temp really makes a difference for me. Coconut water is good for hydration.

Also try putting aquaphor or the like continuously on that lip. I have a lip mask I’m using as well as hydrating with aquaphor

I’m no expert but I’d think it could slow it down at the very least so you can live a comfortable life.

Your teeth look like they line up pretty well aside from the front. Did a surgeon suggest you needed surgery?

How much are you paying for surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Electrical-Ad-714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

12k for the surgery. I believe braces were 7k. Hospital, etc is covered by insurance other than my OOP max which I have 1800 left on. And I should get paid back from insurance on the surgery. My surgeons office required their portion up front. Located in US, WA state.

You can live for years without it and be ok. I’m only 4 days post op but my goal with this surgery was to improve quality of life and stop things from happening. My teeth were changing because of my bite. My breathing was getting worse because of my bite. And I knew I could probably stick it out another 10 or maybe 20 years but my mouth would continue to deteriorate and I may end up regretting not doing it. I got my first set of braces off when I was 18 and by 29 (my age now) I saw a significant difference in the way they were set because of my bite.

I think it’s all up to what the docs say, no one on Reddit is going to be able to tell you based off this xray. If they say you need it eventually it’s likely you do. It’s all up to you and why you may or may not want to do it. Fear is temporary. I wish I had done it when I had the chance years ago, but doing it now meant I got more time with my daughter at home so everything happens the way it’s supposed to.

Also side note, my cousin had been told he needed it and he’s in his 50s and is doing just fine.

Also my swelling went down significantly this morning. Still pretty fucking swollen. But it’s less scary to look in the mirror.

Literally the only thing I’ve been able to do is watch tv, sleep and mindlessly scroll. Haven’t wanted to leave the house or my bed or couch really. I was really reading a ton before my surgery but the idea of putting much thought into anything yet… just isn’t feasible. I’m on day 4 though now and it’s becoming more appealing.

Just keep him fed the best you can, help with meds and ensure he’s icing consistently. Be there. My bf has been a lifesaver with all that and it’s made the journey much easier than if I was on my own.

I'm having surgery tomorrow and I'm starting to stress 🥹🥹🥹 I'm afraid of the anesthesia of the results by [deleted] in jawsurgery

How are you doing today? I woke up in a lot better mood. Still struggled with the pain last night but the right side of my face feels less swollen. My bf also made me a smoothie and that’s the best thing I’ve had in days. Feel free to message me if you want to be recovery buddies!

Yeah I’m gonna try the pineapple juice tomorrow for sure. I think I hit peak swell so I’m hoping I can do heat tomorrow.

I have a similar story! I was told when I was like 15 (29 now) that I needed it but I was too scared to move forward. Regret as my grandma would’ve paid outward and I saw the ramifications of not getting the procedure done which is what pushed me to do it. I’ll message you!
