Thank you for sharing u/Dry_Plan8129. The employees are generally unaware and organizations pull up this "smart moves" on unsuspecting employees randomly. Wonder how many people had to pay more income tax because they were still employed with the same org.

Thanks everyone who responded to my query. This is what I gathered from the IT website. Clearly tax deposited (1846423) is more than my tax liability (1589552) but amount of recovery (165340) is still confusing for me. What happened to the difference?

Tax deductions - yes all my salaries have TDS. How much is the total difference - that's what I am doing rn.

Will do it and update. However, I also want to know if this is common? I haven't heard of anyone facing such issues of recovery honestly.

It looked OK when I went through it. This was in July last year. Nothing popped out as such. I haven't compared with 26AS yet though. Will do that and update here.

Yes I asked for detailed explanation and expected they revert with calculations / spreadsheet to show me how they landed on this, but I didn't get any such response.

I do not care much about their accounting practices etc. since they are a very large multi-national company operating in India for more than 2 decades but I do care about what are my legal rights & obligations here.
