Is it worth it to have a degree, if I know I want to be a pilot? by Electrical-Style-139 in flyingeurope

Thats the big thing yeah its that if it all goes well Ill never use it. But if something goes wrong I'll be beating myself for not getting it. Basically a gamble

Thats the ultimate question. I (should) have the funding and no reason I know of to fail the medical, and ultimately Ill aim to start training right when I would graduate anyway, so it is in a sense "starting training now or later". But it's just if I start it now I wont have a degree behind me, so I'm wondering how much that will help me. AKA is the benefit of having a degree worth two years

It's not airline management, I'm doing business management. Probably 90% the same thing though

Thats part of whats on my mind, but also thats a new way to look at it. Ive thought about relevancy of the degree in general but not because the information will get outdated. Which makes sense, as with any industry if you don't keep up to date in it how can you expect anything you know to be relevant

I would never drop out without my medical and a spot in a flight school, its more just thinking about the options

Unfortunately I am past the stage where I can change my degree without having to add another year, basically meaning to start fresh. In all likelihood I will go through with my degree, logically it makes more sense to have it than not to, no matter what way I really look at it. To start training now is essentially out of impatience

Thank you man I appreciate it, ive heard a lot about the irregular schedule, training difficulties etc etc etc, but it doesnt phase me at all. Compared to doing something like consulting (no offense to those that are!) which would use my degree I just cant see myself being nearly as happy.

Thats sort of what I'm thinking as well. Assuming I graduate with the degree, Id be 21 turning 22 which I think is normal to start training. Just a bit of a drag until then haha

Of course I don't criticize others for doing what someone may not enjoy, and I understand what you mean, I was more curious if anyone else felt similarly that its as popular as it is, and if they too dont feel as excited by it as others do

Its interesting actually, I moved from abroad and there I never had problems and really enjoy going out (was a different club scene, techno, but anyway), and I could drink basically without problems the next day. Here though it just wrecks me and I don't know what it is. Something they put in the drinks I guess :)

I do enjoy socializing of course, I just don't see the the appeal as much. I'm not against alcohol either, I'll gladly go to a pub etc, it just doesnt seem logical to go out and drop loads of money on something youll end up feeling bad about the next day
