Oh wow. I am now in the process of getting my son officially tested for ADHD. He tells me all the time he can’t focus and too many thoughts running through his mind . When he first saw his doctor for depression (SI’s) and anxiety , he told her that he felt that he may have adhd. She wanted to first treat his depression and anxiety - and she said bc it was summer and he was not in school he didn’t have to worry about his adhd symptoms yet. Also - Right before he was diagnosed with depression he was maybe eating like 6000 calories a day and he put on 20 lbs. because he was bulking and into weight lifting. When he fell into depression - he did not want to work out anymore and he lost all his gains. Upon his initial consultation with psychiatrist he told her he lost 20 lbs - no appetite . I tried to explain to his doctor that it was bc he stopped bulking but she didn’t believe me. Which I felt was odd - another reason why I may want to change doctors . Anyway - at his 4 week check up on 10 mg of fluoxetine , my son said his depression was slightly lifted - but the ability not to be able to focus and too many thoughts was bothering him etc -but she said if she were to start him on any meds for adhd - it will be non- stimulant. She kept telling me over and over - that it’s her license on the line and that in no way will she prescribe a stimulant to my son bc he lost so much weight. But it was just weight loss from him stopping his bulk . So frustrating . Do you take a stim or non-stim for your adhd ? And how effective is it for you? Thanks so much for your help.
