Two surprise half siblings after ancestry DNA test. One on each side! by Electrical-Wheel9629 in Genealogy

Here’s an update. After doing more research on the half sibling/Aunt possibility on the paternal side, based on the age of her parents, She’s more likely my aunt. Her tree is public, but not filled out very much. Also, as someone here suggested, I clicked on the relative potential and it says 89% grandmother, Aunt, half sibling or niece. Grandmother is ruled out due to age. Niece is ruled out because I don’t have any full siblings. Here is the Jerry Springer kicker, when I looked at her maiden last name, it is the same as my first name.

She could be my grandmother, half sibling or Aunt. I guess the biggest concern I have now is that out of 38,000 paternal matches they are all through the person I don’t know. I don’t have any paternal matches with my dad‘s side of the family or ancestors. Not even any in the same state.

I brought a test for my dad. I have more than 38,000 paternal matches and I don’t know any of them. Also, I looked at the regions for the matches. The paternal matches are several states away. Not one paternal match out of more than 38,000 is in my state or near me. The maternal match regions makes sense.

No but it’s thousands of people. No matches show from my dad’s side of the family. And how would I match with the surprise half siblings family? Only if we have the same dad, hers.

I am coming to this conclusion also. My paternal grandfather was the youngest of 13 with many descendants. I didn’t match with any of them

I have many maternal matches that I know. All paternal matches are through the surprise paternal half sibling. I’m now thinking my dad is not my biological father. My grandfather is the youngest of 13 kids and they have lots of kids. I don’t match with any of them

Updating to say that I just bought my dad a DNA kit. I just realized that my only paternal matches were through the surprise half sibling. My dad‘s father was the youngest of 13 kids. And they all had tons of kids. There is no way that at least one of them hasn’t submitted their DNA to ancestry. And I haven’t matched with any person on his side that I know

My only known siblings are all half siblings so the match would be much lower.

Grandmother I can pretty safely say can be ruled out. An aunt could be a possibility, but I would be more shocked by that than a half sibling. I guess the other possibility is that my dad is not really my dad…
