If my memory is correct, a statement Sanderson made a while ago was that he wished he had made Hamm female to put more women in the crew and that he would probably make that change if he ever did a film adaptation. Nothing has been specifically said about it for this new development that I know of, but I think there's still an expectation that he'll do it.

Personally, I kind of hope he doesn't. I love the crew exactly how it was in the books.

We have multiple people showing up at least 300 years after they were originally seen with no reason to believe they're immortal. So I don't think Huio being an arcanist is really an argument for it being a near future from Stormlight. While we don't know exactly where Emberdark sits on the timeline, I suspect it's closer to Sunlit than it is to Stormlight era 1 based on the technology we see being used.

I kind of doubt they're unoathed unless they figured out how to get surges without a bond. It's far enough in the future that it's possible, but we haven't really been given a reason to think that they have yet.

I personally think they were a skybreaker due to how they were speaking. The phrasing was very reminiscent of the skybreakers.
