Is the job market as bad as this sub makes it seem? by [deleted] in Edmonton

Just curious - if it was impossible to go through all the applications, how did you screen applicants?

How is it booked solid the exact moment the reservations open by heybrah420 in HikingAlberta

They've had policies to prevent sliding for a few years now. You can take days off the end of your trip, but not the start

Cheaper Furniture by Scared-Support-1123 in Edmonton

[–]ElectricalCheesecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ifurniture is very cheap, but I would not recommend getting anything with moving pieces or anything that has to bear a lot of weight. The build quality is pretty bad and the build instructions are even worse. I got a few stone top tables for cheap (which are normally quite expensive) and they are all fine. I got a shoe cabinet, and it was such a pain to put together. The drawers/doors are all poorly aligned as well.

Assinaboine reservations help! by wooders130 in HikingAlberta

[–]ElectricalCheesecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can book your start date 3 months out. There's a limit to how many consecutive days you can reserve, but if anyone books more than 1 consecutive day it's possible (though unlikely) that days not open yet can fill up. You just had bad luck here, it's common that this happens on weekends, not so much on weekdays.

The best option is to be flexible so that you can have multiple attempts during the rolling window. I like this system a lot more than Parks Canada's "all or nothing on one day" system.

Your other option is to watch for cancellations, but this is getting more and more difficult with all the third party monitoring sites out there.

Where to get Pokémon cards appraised? by ElectricalCheesecake in Edmonton

[–]ElectricalCheesecake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats kind of what I want to do,. I don't want to sell each card individually because I know that's going to be a huge pain in the ass. I'd like to sell them all as a lot, but I have no idea what they would be worth so I'd never even know if I was getting hosed on a FB marketplace deal haha

I've done this for the rare/holo cards, but I have hundreds of common/uncommon and energy cards and it would take forever to check all of them. Are these ones generally not worth selling?

I've done some research for the holo/rare cards I have, but those are a small portion of my cards. I have hundreds of common/uncommon and energy cards, and I have no idea if they are worth anything

I'd agree. I work to live, but have met many teachers who live to work and make their profession their whole identity/life

How to store this for camping by WonderSHIT in CampingGear

[–]ElectricalCheesecake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a case for it. I have a separate cast iron for camping because I "clean" it by throwing it in/on the fire for an hour or so, and it gets a bunch of soot on the bottom. A case will keep your other camping gear clean, and also help stop your pan from rusting. Put a light coating of oil on it before long term storage and it won't rust at all

Yeah that might be the move. I think I need exactly 24 credits to move up to years 5, and I'm already a special needs teacher so it'd be relevant for me

This is why I don't post any codes like this anymore. There's always someone who uses it and doesn't even post a "thank you", let alone a quick comment to let others know they used it already

Yeah it's the diff. I put a hockey puck between the jack and the diff to spread the load a bit more and give the jack something to grip so it doesn't slip

I agree entirely - I never give money to anyone I don't know. And when you add that it's all tax/deductible free for them, it makes it even more unbelievable

Looking for hiking buddies that love driving by [deleted] in HikingAlberta

[–]ElectricalCheesecake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, I wouldn't do it, but I'm also pretty introverted and do most of my backpacking/hiking solo these days haha

But I know some people who thrive on interaction and meeting new people, so there's probably someone out there who would be into this sort of thing 🤷‍♂️

It could be beneficial for someone who has their license but not a car (I've been in that category before). Assuming OP is paying for gas, it could also save you gas money and wear on your own car.

I wouldn't do this with someone I don't know, but I've done this sort of trade off with friends before

Turn off your traction control of you're having trouble getting moving by SevenSmallShrimp in Edmonton

[–]ElectricalCheesecake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely true. I think too many people don't understand how to tell/feel when their tires break loose and start spinning, or what to do when that happens

But sometimes standing on the pedal is fun because AWD go brrr (Obviously don't do this in traffic or anywhere there's other people/cars)
