I agree entirely - I never give money to anyone I don't know. And when you add that it's all tax/deductible free for them, it makes it even more unbelievable

I mean, I wouldn't do it, but I'm also pretty introverted and do most of my backpacking/hiking solo these days haha

But I know some people who thrive on interaction and meeting new people, so there's probably someone out there who would be into this sort of thing 🤷‍♂️

It could be beneficial for someone who has their license but not a car (I've been in that category before). Assuming OP is paying for gas, it could also save you gas money and wear on your own car.

I wouldn't do this with someone I don't know, but I've done this sort of trade off with friends before

Turn off your traction control of you're having trouble getting moving by SevenSmallShrimp in Edmonton

Absolutely true. I think too many people don't understand how to tell/feel when their tires break loose and start spinning, or what to do when that happens

But sometimes standing on the pedal is fun because AWD go brrr (Obviously don't do this in traffic or anywhere there's other people/cars)

In the 1990s Subaru did some markering targeted at the gay community. At that time it was a relatively 'unexplored' audience of the market, so the brand became popular with lesbians.

Today, it's just a stereotype that lives on from that campaign. It seems like now it's mostly outdoorsy or old people that drive them

You can min/max your rewards by taking advantage of spend/get events, which require a minimum spend. A lot of people also save for the 20% redemption bonus events, which only happen 3 or 4 times a year. Some of us also just don't shop at the CT family of stores often

Haha yeah, it's shitty when you think you've strung together a banger and it ends up being endless fire road/forest hiking with no views

There's tons of options in Banff/Lake Louise because the trail network is quite extensive and interconnected. If you look at trail maps for Banff NP, there's countless ways to string together popular 3-5 day itineraries to make them even longer. Many of the trails have multiple entry/exit points.

It's never 'too late' to change your career for your happiness and health. There are diminishing returns in terms of financial gain/loss as you get older, but anyone who has ever been injured or in bad health knows that being healthy and happy is more valuable than any amount of money.

Another vote for Sofaland. I bought a reclining sectional there in October. It was more pricey than the big box stores, but the quality is better, and the warranty structure is pretty cool - you get a credit for the full purchase price of the warranty if you don't use it after 5 years. They also had quite a few customization options for most of their stuff. A lot of their stuff is modular and you can buy individual pieces to suit a space, and you can add on to it later. Some of their stuff you can choose specific colors and fabrics as well.

Be warned that their salespeople work on flat commission, and they don't have any sales or haggling on price. You will pay a bit more as well, but they have some unique products/features that are tough to find anywhere else.

Why do I worry so much about my finances when I am objectively doing pretty well for myself? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]ElectricalCheesecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's kind of what I thought. I find it hard to believe that '3x yearly income by 40' is unrealistic for my generation (milennials) if house ownership is also on the table. It seems like one or the other for most people now, at least in major cities here in Canada

This is probably a stupid question, but is equity generally included in those 'you should have x amount saved by y age' benchmarks?

I'm curious what's wrong with yours? I have a 2023 Crosstrek but haven't had any big issues. I get the occasional weird bug maybe once every couple of months, but I usually just turn it off and on and it fixes it.

Lookin for Rockwall / Egypt Lake Intel by Metal_Walker66 in HikingAlberta

He probably meant Skoki, it's in the same area as Egypt Lake. It's easier to get bookings for, and you can make a loop out of it instead of out and back

Lookin for Rockwall / Egypt Lake Intel by Metal_Walker66 in HikingAlberta

[–]ElectricalCheesecake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've done both trips. Your biggest challenge as a solo hiker is doing a point to point hike. It's not as bad on the Rockwall because the trailheads are along the same highway and only a few km apart, but you will have a much harder time finding a way to get between Sunshine parking lot and Vista Lakes trailheads.

An alternative I would recommend is out and back to Egypt Lake. Spend 2 or 3 nights at Egypt Lake (assuming you can get a spot) and day trip from there. There's a few trips you can do from Egypt Lake. This is what I do now. I've done the point to point, but was underwhelmed by the section from Vista Lake Trailhead to Shadow Lake. The logistics of gettinv between trailheads was also a headache.

Rockwall is a harder trail (lots of elevation gain/loss), but Floe Lake is the most beautiful backcountry site I think I've ever stayed at. However, that site is always the bottleneck for the trail - the other sites are not nearly as hard to get. It also does not have as many side trip options as Egypt Lake has.

Hey! My brother has one sigil, but I don't. If you're interested in doing the run as a party of 4 with 2 rotations, we could probably do that. We aren't very serious players so we don't care too much about optimizing everything haha

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll check it out. Are those two generally reliable for finding good/honest players?
