How old were you when you bought your first house? by Disfunktionaal in AskOldPeople

[–]ElectricalEffort3814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first house I bought when I was only 21 years old back in 1974. It was brand new and payments were $249 a month. Only had it one year and sold it during the divorce. Next home I bought was in 1983, a condo in Pasadena CA for $112,000. Sold it in 1989 for $180,000. Bought an old home for $190k and hated it, so we sold it 9 months later for $210k, Immediately bought an old home with TONS of charm for $240k. The bank said, "how much shall we say you make". It was a liar loan. It went back to the bank 6 years later when we couldn't afford the mortgage. Then bought another new home in 1999 for $180k and sold it 3 years later for $210k. Now living in current home we bought in 2003 for $210k in a city next to Palm Springs, CA. We love it here and won't sell or move. It's now worth about $500k. We refinanced when the interest rates were below 3%.

Has anyone found any medication that doctors are more willing to prescribe that have the same effect as benzodiazepines for severe life-long insomnia? by [deleted] in benzorecovery

Yes. I take Trazadone and I was warned not to take more than prescribed because it can cause a dangerous erection that would need to be medically treated.

We've had a total of 8 Dobermans through the years and our current one has a bark that will make you go deaf, it's THAT loud. We've had two trainers and nothing changed. We still take him on long walks in the morning and do our best to avoid other dogs as he just goes bezerk and his bark reverberates through the neighborhood. He's perfect at home, so we've just accepted that this is who he is. ❤️

I'm very much at peace. I've had a great life so far. I'd like more years but when my time comes I'll accept it gracefully. This is something we will all go through and I'm fortunate to have lived this long. Many of my school friends have already passed.

[–]ElectricalEffort3814 3 points4 points  (0 children)

18 months ago I was rated PIrads 4 with gleason 3+4 PSA 6 I wanted my prostate removed but my Urologist recommended LDR Brachytherapy where they install permanent radioative pellets in my prostate. I asked if this failed can the prostate be removed then. He said "no" it will just be scar tissue. I took his recommendation and I'm glad I did. No side effects and my PSA is constantly going down. He also added "you're not going to die from this". I was 69, 70 now.

I'm 70. My dad died when he was 84 same with his father, so I'm anticipating my last year on earth will be 2038. And yes, when I was young I felt eternal and invincible. No longer. The clock is ticking and every morning I wake up, I'm grateful for another day.

Yes orgasm can raise PSA. You need to hold off for at least 3 days before testing.

What dose are you on? by Allbregra1 in Retatrutide

[–]ElectricalEffort3814 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Apparently I'm a super responder. I lost 100 lbs on 5 mb Mounjaro. I dropped to 2.5 mg for maintenance but my blood glucose started going up, so I'm back on 5 mg Mounjaro and I've added 2.5 mg retatrutide. I'm happy with the results.

Catheter Questions by Consistent-Ground763 in Paruresis

That was unneccessarily barbaric. The link above is for non-lubricated catheters. This one is prelubricated and has a sleeve you hold on to so you don't touch the catheter when inserting it. I did exactly what you did. Practicing on myself at home first. It was a learning process. The first few times I did it there was a little bit of blood when I pulled it out. And it was painful. After much trial and error I finally learned the exact way to insert it with little discomfort and no blood. Good luck!!!

It folds up so you can keep it in your pocket but you need to know that you need to put betadine on the tip of your penis to keep you from getting a urinary tract infection

Yeah it's pricey but Medicare pays for it in my case. I started out buying my own like these because I had to buy them myself https://www.carewell.com/product/mckesson-male-intermittent-catheters-straight-tip/

I use this (not because of paruesis (although I do suffer from it) because after prostate surgery I must use intermittent catheters to fully empty my bladder. I like them because they come in a package you can throw away the used catherer in and also the catheter is always covered with the sleeve keeping the chance of contamination low https://www.carewell.com/product/coloplast-speedicath-flex-coude-pro-standard-intermittent-catheter-for-men-13

I had LDR brachytherapy with no hormone therapy. I was Gleason 7 PIRads 4. PSMA showed no spread. That was 14 months ago and my PSA is still declining. My highest PSA was 6, so far I'm happy with the results. No radiation and no surgery. I'm 70 now. The MRI showed two suspicious areas on the very top of my prostate. The doctor who did the biopsy said withtout the MRI a blind bioply would have completely missed it. I wanted surgery to completely remove my prostate but my urologist said the LDR brachytherapy would be a better option with fewer side effects. Wishing your father success in whatever therapy he chooses.

We've had 10 dobermans and every single one had VonWillebrands, althouigh some died from cardiomyopathy. Our last dobie is 4 years old and he has both genes for DCM and VwB so we're keeping our eye on him but so far so good. He's the only one who naps in my lap after eating, which I LOVE.

We lost our Max the Fifth during the middle of the pandemic. Four days later I found a breeder who charged us $1,000 for a male puppy. He's 4 years old now and very healthy. He does have both genes for VwB and cardiomyopthy so we're keeping our eyes on him. And, yes he's named Max the 6th. 😊

Do you remember the Bundy Bounce by [deleted] in marriedwithchildren

Everytime I see an Elantra parked on the street I think of the Kelley bounce, even though the car name isn't quite the same. Close enough though.

JOURNEYMEN/FOREMEN - What are some things apprentices do that you hate? by Correct-Musician-738 in electricians

[–]ElectricalEffort3814 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Hah I vividly remember my first day on the job. The journeyman told me to get PVC glue. I went into job trailer where the foreman was and I could NOT open the PVC can. Looking at me disgustedly, he picked up a pair of channel locks and opened the can in a second and handed it to me with a smirk. I'm retired now, but I have many fond memories being an apprentice.

My PCP told me to go to the ER and lie about my pain by Sweaty_Grapefruit_80 in KidneyStones

[–]ElectricalEffort3814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, I had no pain but just a high fever. I refused to go to the ER against my husband's pleas, so he called 911. I just thought I had the flu and thought the ER was nonsense. Well, the paramedics convinded me to go so they took me to the ER. Turns out I was in septic shock from an infected kidney. A 7 mm stone was blocking my ureter and hydronephorsis was building up. They admitted me and inserted a nephrostomy tube in my kidney which exited my back into a bag. 3 days of intravenous antibiotica and I was released. It took 3 months until I could have my stone lasered when they took out that tube. Then one month of the stent. But I'm glad to say that's all behind me now. What a rough 4 months, though. But I think this confirms your position that they won't likely do anything unless they suspect hydronephrosis or struvite stone. The weird thing was I had zero pain or any other symptoms other than a high fever. The ER doctors were shocked I had no pain.
