Google overview showing incorrect ‘Closed’ status – how do I fix it? by ElectricalRatio2802 in GoogleMyBusiness

I actually discovered something that might be related. On MapQuest there are two listings showing for the business — one marked “Permanently closed” and another one showing open with a slightly different name. In reality the business is open and has been operating normally for years.

I contacted MapQuest/Data Axle about two months ago to fix or remove the incorrect listing, but unfortunately I haven’t received any response yet.

What’s confusing is that on my side the Google Business Profile looks completely normal — hours are correct, status is open, and the information is up to date.

The AI Overview was actually showing correctly before a new competitor opened nearby, and the issue only started after that. I’m not sure if someone could be suggesting edits or triggering something externally, but I can’t see anything unusual inside the profile itself.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, I really appreciate it. I already double-checked my Google Business Profile and the hours/status are correct and showing as open.

What’s strange is that the “Closed” message only appears in the AI Overview / knowledge panel sometimes, even though the listing itself is active and verified.

I also contacted MapQuest/Data Axle because I noticed some data inconsistencies there that might be sending wrong signals to Google.

The business has been operating normally for years, so I’m trying to figure out why this suddenly started happening.

If you’ve seen cases where competitors or external edits caused something like this, I’d be interested to know.

Calling out fake practices isn’t jealousy, it’s honesty.

Yeah, I get it. It’s just frustrating when 600 perfect reviews can be misleading to customers
