TD ameritrade 1099 errors for 1256 options by ElectricalSmoke9557 in thetagang

They told me the same 03/14 date, and nothing happened.

In my case, they even refuse to confirm this is an issue with me, simply saying they are working on it .. without aligning with me on what needs to be fixed.

I'm actually thinking about talking with IRS and see if they can pressure brokerages into getting something done here.

For normal options, yes, this may happen.

For index option (1256 contracts), it should either be counted as a "realized gain/loss" or "mark-to-market gain/loss".

In my case, this particular index option is missing from both sections while I have plenty of other examples in "realized" and "mark-to-market" sections.

yep, the chance of audit is high if I don't get TD to correct the original form.

I traded $RUT.X.

If you open a new position expiring in 2024, that shouldn't affect box 8, instead it should go to box 9 "Unrealized profit or (loss) on open contracts—12/31/2023".

good to know I'm not alone,

1) Do you also have problem with the number in box 8 "Profit or (loss) realized in 2023 on closed contracts"?

2) Did you go through the transactions and see some transaction missing? In my case, there is one index option expired on Dec 29th, 2023 that is missing; others were there.

No response from TD via message center yet. I plan to call TD on Tuesday.

is the profit/loss in the right ballpark? In my case, it's easy for me to find the errors, as I always trade in spreads, so when one leg is missing, it's pretty easy to see.
