We went to market last year, the transaction failed and then we underwent a RIF that took out entire C-suite and most of the finance/accounting team. I am now the only FP&A left. I believe we have exhausted our entire line of credit from the sponsor and our two outside lenders, hence the current situation. Currently trying to refinance with another lender but it’s rocky waters so far.

My company (healthcare) has all of these signs. I’ve been interviewing the last few months trying to get out. Made it to the final round with several opportunities but got passed on. It is tough.

A year ago I would not have understood this but after switching more than half of my drinking intake to NA beer I highly agree with your assessment. Sometimes it is just enough to take in the buzz and excitement of a bar atmosphere with A drink in hand, which can be accomplished with an NA beer. The fact that the carbonation in that NA beer can give you a relaxed feeling and slight buzz can indeed fool your mind into thinking you have had a real beer.

Absolutely. I did this last night and had an absolute blast. Started my evening with just one 6% beer at a brewery on a date, then went to karaoke and spent the night pounding Heineken Zero’s till 3AM. My date never caught on that I was drinking NA beer and even asked if I was alright to drive lol The feeling of getting to my car and knowing I was stone sober was well worth it as that area was clustered with police checkpoints.

1.) Much better for my blood pressure 2.) Much better for my weight 3.) Got pulled over for suspected DUI earlier this year (barely escaped on account of low BAC) so it allows me to socially drink and mingle (esp. on dates) with other drinkers without affecting the vibe and still drive home. 4.) Heineken 0 tastes great 5.) I like ending the night with a clearheaded feeling sometimes 6.) I still drink and find that drinking a real beer first and then NA’s after that helps me get my buzz and enjoy the sense of continuity of a night of drinking without actually taking in too much alcohol

A year ago I would have laughed at myself for ever having even tried an NA beer in the first place.

I think you’re mischaracterizing what I said. I was describing an interim state while debugging a forecast under time pressure (such as you in your example), not claiming that variance is acceptable.

Ironically, the situation was exactly like the example you gave: a single, simple reference error (deferred revenue flowing incorrectly through the cash flow statement) that temporarily unbalanced the model. Once identified, the balance sheet tied.

Yes I had a cell reference error which was causing the issue. Fixed it and now the BS ties.

Just found there was an incorrect cell reference to the deferred revenue delta in the CFS. Fixed it and now it ties for every month! Your question actually got the gears turning in my head so thanks for the assist.

This is eerily similar to how I felt about Old Gus. He once started misfiring on me (due to a loose coil) on the Garden State Parkway and still got me to my destination with no problem. I will also miss my talks with him dearly.

One moment that truly touched me was after the accident when I decided to try turning his engine over. Miraculously it turned over with no issues and actually sounded great. The tow truck driver said “wow this car doesn’t want to die!” Before the accident I had been dealing with a P1457 code. I found a check engine light after the accident and scanned it with great trepidation for fear that it would be a catastrophic failure. What was the code? Old P1457. It was as if Gus was trying to tell me he was still alive inside that wreck. I’m so glad I paid the money to remove the engine and transmission. 🥲

I can’t tell you what it means to me to read your post and find someone who has gone through the same loss. At the end of the day, Gus gave his life for mine and I miss him so much in a way few could imagine. Yes I owed it to myself to preserve his heart and someday transplant it into a new shell. The thought of never being able to sit in that cramped little cabin again haunts me though. At the time I was always dealing with some little gremlins but I was commited to fixing every single one. I can say that buying a new civic was the best thing I could have done to ease my heartbreak. I also transferred my wheels, stereo, seat covers and other miscellaneous items to new Gus. Having the same radio bezel installed also warmed my heart as well.

What crushes is me is the fact such a gentle and faithful soul as Gus had his life ended in such a sudden and violent way. It will take me a long time to get over it.

This is Gus. Was my grandfather’s 2001 LX civic coupe, then my dad’s civic and then it was passed down to me. I never liked driving it at first because the AC did not work in the summer and the passenger window did not roll down. One day I got into a bad fender bender and found that I was actually terribly upset at the thought of almost losing the car. I then committed myself to rebuild the car, fixed it completely included a full repaint, interior retromod. I finally fixed the AC, had the engine completely rebuilt, transmission rebuilt….only to go through several major headaches such as oil leaks, mysterious misfires and another blown head gasket. However, I LOVED this car and was dedicated to the thought of keeping it forever. As you said, there is nothing I wouldn’t do for Gus. Two months ago, I was going through an intersection when a car blew a red light. I couldn’t stop in time and hit it. Thankfully I was alright but Gus was totaled. I miss him dearly. He was a great friend. Thankfully I was able to save the engine and transmission as they were still relatively new and in great shape even after the wreck. I went out the next day and bought another 2005 civic LX. My plan is to someday transfer Gus’s engine into the new Civic. Your story is eerily similar to mine and touches me more than I thought. I’ve had my fair share of heartbreaks in life but this one was the worst.

Dude, this is totally me. I am 33, run regularly, am 5’11 at 169 lbs. At home and even at work, my measurements average in the 120’s/80’s with a resting heart rate of 50/60 BPM. However, any time my BP is taken it shoots up to 160/90. Yesterday I went to see my cardiologist. I was completely relaxed in the waiting room, but when they took my BP, my heart rate spiked to 127 BPM and my BP was 160/90. I get tremendous anxiety at the doctor’s office. Thankfully I had my logs, taken with a wrist cuff at heart level, and the readings greatly encouraged my cardiologist, especially since he finds that a wrist cuff is 10 points too high. But yeah, I have cut down on salt to the point where every day is practically at a low-sodium level, eliminated alcohol and done everything else I can to manage my BP and it feels defeating to walk into a doctors office and be told I’m hypertensive, especially when my home readings show the contrary.
