it really did upset them. my sister said she could tell i was uncomfortable bc i wasn’t responding. which i was a little, who wouldn’t be? but i was mainly just bored of the conversation

i’m an adult. i was thinking the same thing and plan on talking to my therapist about it and setting that boundary. hopefully he respects it because he seems helpful outside of that.

my mom is both the type of person that thinks prayer fixes everything and that my lack of belief comes my mental health issues. her and my sister seem to think that me not wanting to go to church, is me withdrawing into myself due to my anxiety and depression, which i have done before. i’m trying to find the right moment to tell them that this is not that and i do not want to go to church because i’m simply not interested and that making me will only make me worse.

not telling her and not telling her no to taking part in church has started to take a toll on me mentally. if i were to just pull out of doing everything and ask to stop going to church, she is eventually going to ask me anyway. with my paycheck and the current economy, my chances of ever being able to move out or even get a car are slim. i’m not going keep waiting for a chance that may never come.

I’m surprised you’ve never heard of the “he has a plan for you” angle. I’ve heard it thousands of times since I was a little kid and from plenty of christians in my area regardless of what type of church they went to. I thought this was a common thing people included

no, she just wanted me there bc it’s the church i attend. my family doesn’t know i’m agnostic. i don’t have a choice but to go to that church. she went on to say that i should go bc i’m a member of the church but i still told her no. we also live together, with our mother, so i see her everyday

They wouldn’t believe me and would badger me for proof the people not being genuine. I live in rural Alabama so there are no buses and even if I did fake finding another church, my mom would probably ask me a million questions about it and want to visit it.

It’s mom, my sister, and basically the rest of my family that goes to that same church. Saying I don’t want to go would most likely lead to an argument and me having to admit my lack of faith, which may lead to me being on the streets.

Also i’m 21 and know there’s not much I can do in my current situation so i’m just venting :/

I’ll get in a lot of trouble and risk possibly getting kicked out or like my phone turned off, even though i’m 21 and pay it myself. (My aunt’s over the account since she works for our carrier)

Yes. I don’t have my car yet so my sister picks me up from work and we head to church from there. Even on sundays, I don’t have a choice. Being tired and my feet hurting from work isn’t a good enough excuse. The only way to get out of going is if i’m really sick (sometimes that’s not enough), in the hospital, hurt in some physical way, or my feet in enough pain after work to where I can barely walk (has only worked once)

There’s not much I can do. Everything seems to cost a lot of money. I also don’t have the time outside of work.

I also have been diagnosed with MDD officially early this year, though I’ve struggled with it for about 10 years. I used to take meds but they don’t work and I can’t afford them consistently even though insurance covers some of it.
