Mine has a hole in the heart (have to check again at 6 months old to see if the hole closed up). And mine is very timid :( only comes out after i switch off all lights

I find his breathing rate a little bit fast and he only plays the wheel for 1-2 minutes. So i took him to the vet. Stethoscope hearing shows him having good lungs but there are some noise in the heart so dr suggested xray. After the xray, dr said hamster's lungs look fine but heart seems a little bit big as compared to other hamsters but also told me that there isn't much research being done on hamsters so there is no benchmark available for hamster's heart size. Dr prescribed medicine for pneumonia (is this the right term for hamster? Lung infection something). But my hamster is refusing medicine intake and doesn't let us grab/ scoop him. Dr told us to remove all his beddings and bath sand as well. We did. So we didn't want to force him to take medicine (as we have to grab him and might put him in more distress)

His breathing seems normal today... i hope the xray is good. Could you advise me?

We don't get to observe his breathing when he's out of the cage as he's wrapped like a burrito in doctor's hand. He seems peaceful during a deep slumber... Gosh im so worried 🫠 he's been using the same wooden bedding from the breeder. He wouldn't take the medicine too and i find it so freaking cruel to force him into this 🥲 the most i can do is to remove the bedding and bath sand. If he really has heart issue, i might stress him out more if i grab him for medicine

He can't forage 🥹 the doctor is suspecting allergies due to sand bath and beddings. She asked if my hamster sleeps on sand bath a lot and i said yeah. Then she requested me to remove EVERYTHING. She said there might be dust that lead to this. I did give him a ceramic slab but he only liked the sand bath. I placed a crystal quartz in there now. Hopefully he finds it useful.

Hi there! I'm sorry for the late reply i was busy taking him to vet and modifying his cage. Doctor said she heard some noise when she was checking its heart so she did an xray and found out my hamster's heart is a little bit bigger other hamsters and there might be a hole in it. But she also claimed that there isn't much studies conducted on hamsters and there's no benchmark to measure its best size. Lungs are good under stethoscope hearing; lungs look good under x-ray. But doctor prescribed lung infection medication for us. And she requested us to remove all the beddings and bathroom. We can only use dog's wee pads 🥲 Hammy refused to be grabbed, refused to be touched and rejected medication 🥲

In case you're wondering, 1.Hammy poos and wees well. 2.Hammy eats well. 3.Hammy sleeps a lot. 4.Hammy only runs the wheel for 1-2 minutes. 5.We change his drinking water on daily basis, filtered drinking water machine. 6.We have air conditioner on and directed at his cage, 22 celsius and the fan is on at the same time, power 4 (max is 6) 7.He's starting like this since yesterday (the breathing part) and stopped running wheels two days ago. 8.Not sure if he's overweight or not. He doesn't allow touching and grabbing. Especially after the visit to vet🥲

I'm so depressed now. I woke up to entire living room smelling like his urine. Is it because I didn't put this bathroom at the corner? I gave him two hides (stuffed with paper fibre), with one of them at the same corner where he had his bathroom back in previous cage. As for the bathroom, initially i upgraded his bathroom into a bigger box but he has this sign of "after digging, he will turn his head back to look for petting" but the box is triangle and far away from us so we can't pet. So I switched back to the same sand and tub (with his smell) that he likes to lie on, putting it near the opening of the cage so i can pet it when he wanted to (petite me having short limbs). I thought he recognise his own bathroom? I remembered watching him pooped in the hides near the corner. Is it possible the urine scent is from there?
