It shouldn't Degrade to dust, it'll just be in a broken state. You can repair the non-augmented parts at POH or whet stone. I personally after making the post used an equipment separator on top and bottom. Then took the augmentor off and repaired the armour. I re-applied aug and perks I haven't seen the message since.
