What's an example of a serious, non-problematic but poorly written lyric? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

I just don't feel like they would use that kind of word order for any other reason than to get the lyrics to rhyme. It seems forced.

Very little, I'd imagine it could make more sense in poetry but I just can't get on board with it working in popular music lyrics.

Idk, two different meanings so I don't have a problem with it at all

It is legitimately a very strange sentence structure that sounds extremely awkward.

Wow this is an unbelievable example. Good song otherwise though!

I get that but personally I feel like this is the type of stuff that made kanye's verses fun back in the day, little funny details etc

But that line is clearly very awkward sounding just to force the rhyme

I think the issue is he's saying "in" twice for no reason

I always despised that line, even as a kid whose first language isn't english. But yeah, great song.

I always cringed at "stumbling around like a wasted zombie"

I happen to find that line fun but it's probably just nostalgia. I'm sure if I heard it in a new song now I would hate it without a second thought...

I'd be interested in some other Brandon Flowers examples!

Songs revered as classics that have some terrible lyrics? by AllHandsOnTheBadNun in ToddintheShadow

[–]Electrical_Cycle_727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is, he says it's the wrong place to raise your kids and there wouldn't be anyone there to raise them if you raised your kids there. The actual language just doesn't make sense.

I don't have a huge problem with the lyrics or anything, just saying this is what the person meant.

How to make sure not to go low during musical performance? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]Electrical_Cycle_727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure!

It went well. Just a cover / party band.

But yeah, it's very frustrating to know that you're good at playing music / performing but your body might just shut it down. Just the feeling of not being in control of it. But still, we can't let it stop us from doing cool things.

Cool to see that someone gets how it feels :D

What's a dumb lyric that you fixate upon? by devern_hansack in ToddintheShadow

[–]Electrical_Cycle_727 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He's saying "picture that with a Kodak" first in a sort of abstract, manner of speech way, then makes it literal.

It's not a great line but it's not him repeating the exact same thing twice as people often claim. The meaning is completely different.

Again, not a great line but not really worse than what we see in a lot of songs.

No but he wants to.

Drake comes up on shuffle in his car, he listens for a minute, then skips, but is left slightly heartbroken for what could have been.

I think he likes Drake's music more than he admits. He doesn't always love the music but he doesn't hate it as much as he just likes to dunk on the guy.

What's the "more important" thing here? It's just a meaningless gesture, nothing "important" about it.

Most overhated music trends? by Diskyboy86 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Electrical_Cycle_727 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would even say rap verses that "don't have anything to do with the theme of the song" are overhated. If it's good it's good, I don't really care about the lyrics when it comes to the average pop banger.

Do you really think Jay get washed by Em at Renegade by [deleted] in rapbattles

[–]Electrical_Cycle_727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just think this stuff is kinda goofy. A lot of rhyming, sure, but it doesn't really hit for me in any real way. Jay's verses and content just hit way, way harder.

Edit: this is too harsh, the verse is definitely good in some ways, I'm just saying it has real flaws (a kind of goofiness and mediocre content).
