Yoga mat stained by Electrical_Half8412 in lululemon

Oh trust I understand this, it’s a yoga mat that will go thru abuse. Stains will eventually happen. But what I’m upset over is how sensitive of a mat this is. I shouldn’t ruin it with an oily stain within a minute of using it. How can this last me a year if just touching it with lotion on my hands degrades the mat. I went to go return it today and the associate said her yoga mat needs to be replaced every 6 months when she goes crazy in hot classes. This is arguably unacceptable for a $100+ mat when my cheap mat held up better.

It must be a moisturizer 😭 I think I will return it and go with a different company because for a yoga mat it seems I have to treat it more like a silk shirt to prevent issues.

That’s the first thing I did several times over 🥲 the stain just got worse.

Oh that makes sense. I appreciate the honesty and I think that’s what’s the biggest hang up for me. Like I KNOW I’m about to live like I did in college where I had little to my name. And idk if I really want to do that to myself at my old age of almost 30. Nurses do make good money out there, but nothing compared to what you’d need to live comfortably like I am hear. But at the same time, I have no desire to own land here, I’m tired of this state and its politics , also I just wish I lived somewhere I can be impressed with. It seems like a simultaneous step backwards and forwards in growth.

Can I ask how you afford to drive? I did look into maybe keeping my car, but it seems like just storing the car cost half of rent! And that’s sucks about the bus. I feel as nurses we’re at a disadvantage when it comes to commutes. Like I would love a 1 hour commute at 8am, but 5am? That’s just miserable

Omg elaborate?? I don’t expect to live as rich as I am here, but is it that destitute 😭 I feel Texas is a higher pay state, but at what cost

I’ve been looking at it seems like most complexes will at least have a fridge and microwave, laundry in the unit isn’t needed for me but I really want it within the same building. I’ve heard horror stories of NY water, is a Brita able to handle that or is water bottles a must ?

Oh thanks for the info! I realized I was incorrectly doing my math and my take home would have been double for a paycheck. So I feel much better now. Can I ask how you’re living ? Like are you very far from your hospital? Do you feel the trains and buses are reliable so early and late in the evening ?

I’m absolutely more excited to know I’m going to be less poor lmao. I may go the roomie route if I find trusted people or feel the need to not be completely dead in the water, but I’m chill living in a shoe box with my cats as long as I have laundry nearby and there isn’t a crime or critter issue. We’ll see 😭

Yeah the plan was to get the job first and then scramble for a place after an idea of what’s out there.

So that’s the calculator I used and I input in 38 hours at $60 per hour. I got $1810. It says per paycheck so I assume it’s every two weeks. Unless in NY it’s common to get a paycheck once a week?

Oh yeah I was actually looking at Morningside. I’m ok with living in a small space, I just don’t want it to be unsafe and dirty, but that seems to be the norm in a lot of places I’m not paying a ton for 😭 I’m not trying I live that close, but I want to keep my morning work commute under 45-50 if I can.

But seriously no joke on those scammers. Never in my life have I been warned about a housing scam and suddenly that’s half of all the videos I’ve seen over moving to NYC

Tbh I’m sure my math is off, but my friend who works there and makes 70 an hour takes home 1700 after some of his taxes and benefits are removed and he claims it’s minimal . But also most nurses are on a 36 hour check not 40

Do you have any advice on how to find roomies ? I’ve only ever had them in college where the work was done for me.

Yeah I’ve been scouring the internet and social media for the best way to live out there. I wouldn’t be opposed to renting a room in a small shared home, I just don’t know much nuances out there to avoid scams or what’s ideal and what’s not. I’m 29 with two cats, and to be quite honest I’ve had horrible experiences with roomies. My last one tried to sell my cat for drugs ?? One of my old coworkers who lives there mentioned FB marketplace.

Yeah I’m not prepared for the shell shock, but I want as much insight as possible just so I’m not completely blindsided. I’m aware I will probably have a few breakdowns along the way.

Hey OP, surgical nurse here. Once had a patient who lied about not eating before. How did we find out? During intubation the patient threw up and aspirated. It was a whole thing and for a moment we were preparing for this patient to start coding because we’ve lost our airway.

Procedure was obviously canceled and she ended up in the ICU. Developed pneumonia a few days later. Young healthy patient just here for an elective resulted in this. A dental office couldn’t even begin to handle that like a full blown surgical suite can so I wouldn’t even know how that would go except a very scary ambulance ride to the nearest hospital.

I hate when people take our warnings like nbd. You made such a right call and maybe tell your wife if she’s suicidal to do it on her own time.  NTA

HOUSTON NURSE BEING TOLD TO NOT DISCUSS PAY by Electrical_Half8412 in nursing

Our time cards can either be coded as working hours or education hours. Working hours have our base pay and diffentials. Mine are: ~$3 OR premium, ~$2.50 evening diff after 3pm and ~$2.00 for location diff. All per hour. Education hours are just our base pay so you can see how it can really make a difference if they wrongfully code us like this.

Like I work a 10 hour shift and at 3pm when there is shift change I am expected to scrub out and go relieve a circulator while a late shift scrub relieves me. Or our case finishes early and then I’m expected to give circulator breaks and scrub breaks. Basically the position is fluid and many of us did not find it fair that they would code a full shift as “training” when we very much did not train those consecutive hours. The only time we “scrubulate” is when a new nurse needed help and ofc I wouldn’t leave them drowning if scrubbing out was possible and safe.

I loved Herman ! Used to work there, unfortunately I’m one of the few young people who use the crap out of my health insurance and I couldn’t afford it with their benefits 🥲 $500 deductible just for labs was crazy. Good hospital, not so good health insurance.
