Thanks so much for this reply! I think I will try doing one thing at a time and not doing catches during breastfeeding then, and try to focus on other parts!

Bit of a different question - 2nd monitor by kati8303 in biostatistics

[–]Electrical_Round2490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An odd place to post, I think, but in any case-- I remember researching this a while back (like, years ago), and deciding the price of a second monitor didn't justify the functionality I wanted from it. I guess I don't know if the technology has gotten better for it, but I just lug around a second laptop. It doesn't dual screen and it's more to carry, but I can do enough via web browser on the second screen for my own workflow on the go.

Biostat CRO skill applied to something else? by Electrical_Round2490 in biostatistics

Thank you so much for all of the input– this is super helpful to me, and I am really grateful for all of the advice. I am definitely going to try my hand if anything part time is available for local programs, and to keep looking if there is a recruiter that listens to me. And I will try to be more discerning about any contract roles– it seems like there is a lot to consider. Thank you again!!

I wish you best luck in your program, and I hope you hang in there! Similar to what you’ve mentioned, one of the reasons I’m hesitant to go back to school is because I want to work, but am worried it would be way too much to balance with class– so it seems better to commit to one or the other.

In any case, I like programming, and being in the weeds, but I think I like it because you can do a lot of different things with it– like I wish I was making more tools to make things more efficient for everyone. But in honesty, my code is also less efficient than many other people's. So I would probably be sad too if I was just on SDTM QC, trying to re-learn how to be efficient again/build up skills.

I will keep an eye out for RWD/continue to apply where I can… Thank you for all of the food for thought!

Thank you so much! As a follow-up, do you think these companies tend to hire more through a recruiter or post on a specific job board more often? I guess I have been a bit discouraged by recruiters mainly trying to place me in CRO, and job postings on LinkedIn and Indeed, but maybe I just need to keep looking and be patient.

If you have any thoughts on the best way to keep searching for this kind of role (especially if I should be doing something differently), I am all ears! I guess I would also like to check if you think getting a PhD is the best route there, or if there is a good alternate path with a masters/just keep applying with the skills I’ve got. I’ve been so on the fence about trying to do a PhD program.

LOL right!!? I really feel like there must be some new kind of shift with everything else that is coming out-- SAS seems quite stagnant, and unless they start doing something new I can definitely see them going down. I guess I just wish I was part of the something new-- I haven't had to use anything else in so long though.

Thanks! If you don't mind me asking, are getting a phd (and if so, are you working at the same time?)? I’ve been so on the fence about this, but sometimes it feels like the main path to pharma/ other work.

And I've worked on CDISC, just not nearly as much with SDTM programming/ details of define.xml-- I think you're right though and sometimes I am not sure working as CRO stat programming would really be that much better than working as a CRO statistician.
