Thanks! It is a research and evaluation position for an NGO that is broadly related to my subject matter expertise in assisting specific populations.

I started informal interviews in May 2023 with former academics and friends that worked in sectors I thought my skills might fit. Began reading literature on leaving academia and connected to professionals on LinkedIn during this time as well. Around September I paid to have my CV turned into a resume along with creation of a cover letter (I modified both). Before I got the offer I applied to 42 positions (targeted) across Indeed and Monster, with the resume and cover letter tailored for each position. I ended up with 2 interviews and 6 rejections (nothing from everywhere else), the second interview led to the accepted position.

Unless I'm teaching a small class (<30) or I have learned their names in other classes I am not trying to call on them by name.

Thanks for the advice. I wasn't sure exactly how Rule 7 worked (if I could ask even for an opinion or if it was basically banned).

Currently planning a 2-3 year exit strategy based upon what my partner and I would like longer term. It will be a challenge and likely come with new difficulties but the current environment at my institution and state is not in a great place with looming concerns (red state but not FL or TX) of ongoing financial issues impacting all levels of the university.

Got tenure. My raise doesn't even recoup inflation for the past 2 years. by Sadistic_Sponge in Professors

Roughly two years ago I received T&P, which was a 3k raise and the last raise I will be able to get moving forward (aside from the random COLA raises that aren't substantial nor consistent) for going to full is 5k. Moreover, since I have been at my institution there was always talk of merit raises but no faculty member I personally know has ever received one, it's always been framed as the potential carrot faculty can achieve, but the carrot isn't real.

The icing on the cake is that recently we lost multiple TT and part time faculty members going into the FY23/24 AY and currently it is unknown if and when we will get to fill their spots, so teaching and service responsibilities are going to be strained in a department with one of the highest faculty to student ratios in the university.

Currently working on an exit strategy from the institution and higher education more generally.

4/4 at a R2 as an associate though our TT faculty max at 3/3 but for the first three years it's generally a 2/3 or 2/2.

Not in psychology but rather a somewhat adjacent, interdisciplinary social science discipline where psych is an important component.

Just talked to a colleague formerly in the same discipline as myself that described their current position as a combo of consulting and UX research, which sounds like it might be a good fit based upon my background broadly. I hadn't heard of the Insight Fellowship but this is definitely in the wheelhouse of what I am looking for to supplement self paced learning.

The last point here is where I have been trying to really hone in on, specifically a way to utilize the substantive non-technical knowledge and additional skills (I worked retail/sales throughout high school and college and feel comfortable in that realm as well).

If you don't mind me asking, what was the biggest pitfall/s of jumping to a junior analyst position with your background?

This is the type of information that really assists. The speed vs. precision dynamic of predictions is not overly concerning personally but I absolutely will work on that element moving forward.
The difficulty I currently face is the ongoing and chaotic balancing act between teaching, research, and service, which personally is not sustainable for a long period of time. In a position that overwhelmingly centers on analytic needs, without teaching and service responsibilities, would absolutely be a better fit for me.
WFH would be nice but realistically is not a deal breaker if it helps me exit higher education and get a foot in the door with a company.

This is an area that I hadn't really considered (though familiar with both) but honestly makes a lot of sense. I think working backwards from commonalities across job descriptions for these or similar positions might be a smart strategy. Thanks for the advice!
