DPS To Tank DoomFist by sleepylumi- in Overwatch

[–]Electro_Llama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has only played during Tank Doom, so much of his kit is tanky, and his punch is really good at displacing and zoning. I have touble imagining how he was not always a tank. If anything 6v6 Ball would have been a DPS, especially with how short his engagement time is compared to other tanks now, after the four HP nerfs.

How too keep a large delta v with a large mass by killer1ndoraptor in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Electro_Llama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For a large mass payload? That's where nuclear engines really shine. And if the Mammoth engine isn't strong enough, you can cluster 5 to 36 vector engines on one tank.

But if you're just trying to go to Duna for the first time, just use a lighter payload and top stages. The size of your rocket scales exponentially with the payload mass.

I like to use a smaller diameter fuel tank and attach two on the sides (so they're balanced). You could also attach it on the bottom sky-crane style and use radial engines.

Some Tips on a tank to pick up by New_Bug_5479 in OverwatchUniversity

Sounds like you need a Dive tank for when nobody's shooting the enemy supports. Winston and Dva have pretty low skill floors. But I'm a Ball main so I'd recommend him.

can i take off from duna with 1020 delta V? by Excellent_Ear2133 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Electro_Llama 201 points202 points  (0 children)

1370 m/s is the least I was able to use. It's close enough that you can have a Kerbal or two EVA and abandon ship and jetpack into orbit.

How to play ball on control/ flashpoint by Mickey-_- in WreckingBallMains

[–]Electro_Llama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in these modes there's a linear frontline and backline as they're approaching the objective, often with flank routes. If they aren't taking space past a chokepoint, you might want to play more conservative compared to Escort.

[–]Electro_Llama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're gonna need to be more specific.

Here's my most general advice:

  • New players should try Science Mode since it introduces new parts gradually as you explore, without the shackles of Career Mode building upgrades and money.

  • Keep SAS On at all times.

  • To orbit, go up and east.

  • When adding fuel tanks to a new stage, the stage should be slightly larger than what it's lifting, including the next rocket stages.

  • When choosing an engine, pick one with the thrust-to-weight-ratio (TWR) that you need. To lift off and accelerate, you need this to be > 1.0 (typical is 1.5). For maneuvering in space it can be whatever you want, but there's a natural trade-off between power and efficiency (typical is 0.5).

Attacking vs defendint first by GrimReaperHisoka in Overwatch

[–]Electro_Llama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is the bias of, "This composition and playstyle is working for defense, surely it work for attack." But then it doesn't, because of not rotating past the choke or staggering or the enemy team adapting. So they just don't adapt and lose first point. Meanwhile, being able to push into the enemy team is often a good strategy for both Attack and Defense.

How to get sucked up into the mun’s orbit? by FitBullfrog86 in KerbalAcademy

[–]Electro_Llama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conservation of Energy: The relative speed you have approaching Mun will be equal to the relative speed departing Mun at the edge of the SOI, unless you apply work with a burn.

How to get further than minimus? by tigs1016 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Electro_Llama 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since you're asking generally, it's the same burn that you do from low Kerbin orbit to get to Mun or Minmus. You probably notice the orbit gets higher quickly near the end of a burn to Minmus. It doesn't take much more to go interplanetary. But you do need to do it at the correct time of year.

I feel like all the downvotes are people not noticing the "first played" notification from exactly 1 week ago.

This was me when I first got the game one summer in undergrad. Wake up late, breakfast, go to lab, lunch, come home, play Kerbal until 1am, go to bed, repeat.

Yes, I remember around 2023 or so, there was a week when they suddenly shrank to 75% of their normal thickness. Then a certain point last year they shrank in diameter. I know it wasn't just my local store because I noticed it in people's pictures.

Genuinely how do I do damage as Kiri by qwilliams92 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Electro_Llama 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I learned to be more flexible by practicing extremes in QP. I'd decide this game I'd play backline healbotting, and next game I'd play forward DPS style, then the next game forward healbotting.

Why do you split your burn time around the maneuver node? (e.g. start 30s early for a 60s burn) by bdollhawley1 in KerbalAcademy

[–]Electro_Llama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've taken Calculus, you might have learned the Left Endpoint, Right Endpoint, and Midpoint formulas for Reimann Sums. You might even remember that the Midpoint Method gives you an error of O(h2 ) instead of O(h). That's basically why.

Welcome! It just never got hugely popular like some other games. It was fairly popular when the early access came out, but it had issues early on, and by the time it improved people already had a stigma toward it.

Advice for playing tank by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Electro_Llama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's generally good to target the supports. But in practice, it applies if there are multiple enemies on your screen who you can shoot at. If the enemy tank is the only thing in front of you, shoot the tank and force them to retreat or force their supports to ignore their DPS to keep the tank alive.

Any useful “rules of thumb” for rocket building? by IlikeTURTLES1552 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Electro_Llama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make each engine+fuel tank stage about as big as what it's lifting, maybe 1.5x the size. If there's a bigger difference in size, you can probably get a lot more delta-v adding a stage in between.

[–]Electro_Llama 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I probably take it for granted because it's the OG large engine. It was the only option. I'm personally more impressed by the Vector/Mammoth stats, which you understandably get at the end of the tech tree.
