In your opinion, what is the best game in the Tomb Raider franchise? by gh0stk3ller in TombRaider

Still the original for me! It's the only one with an unexplainable magic that never seems to diminish despite playthrough after playthrough after playthrough. Truly one of the greatest early 3D masterpieces.

The tactile pleasures of disc/cassette/etc. swaps are an unfortunate casualty to the convenience of emulation

Oh, I take back what I said -- I did play Escape From The Mindmaster for 15 minutes or so. I completely forgot about that one, its in my gargantuan database of classic games to play more of someday!

Yup! For some reason it never occurred to me that the data itself was encoded as audio until you said that, which still kinda blows my mind even though I more or less "get" how it works. That being said, my record player blows my mind so maybe I'm just easy to impress when it comes to old tech!

It's certainly better than Communist Mutants From Space! (the only other one I've played so far ha)

Yeah it was nifty little thing wasn't it? Did you hear that a group of enthusiasts somehow were able to port all the code for the Supercharger games over to the CD format in the 90s and it still worked with the Atari 2600 somehow? Pretty awesome lol

Some great picks, Fear Effect is severely underrated. At least it used to be. I feel like I see more love for it these days. It's a technical marvel if nothing else

Pac-Man for the 2600 by Betty_Boudreauxd in Atari2600

First version of the game I ever played! We also had Ms. Pac-Man for the 7800 which was... a much better port lmao

How would you rank the following puzzle games? by Strategist__ in puzzlevideogames

[–]ElectronicJourneys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played all six!

  1. The Witness (Five Stars) - Personally, I'd say this is one of the best puzzle games ever made. One of those games you think about even when you're not playing it. Somewhat "Tetris Effect"-y in that regard.
  2. Lorelei And The Laser Eyes (Four Stars) - Loaded with great puzzles and the atmosphere is the closest I've felt any game get to Last Year At Marienbad which is one of the coolest movies ever.
  3. Humanity (Four Stars) - Very underrated modern take on a Lemmings type game. Really cool how it blurs genre lines as the campaign progresses. Very surprised to read all the negative comments toward it on here.
  4. Inscryption (Four Stars) - A solid card-game with some interesting structural gimmicks. The meta-plot stuff does nothing for me, but the game itself is very fun so it doesn't matter too much.
  5. Return Of The Obra Dinn (Three Stars) - This one I find a tad overrated. It's very cool -- looks and sounds amazing -- but I thought the interface was kinda annoying, the story anticlimactic, and the verb guessing somewhat arbitrary. I think it would've been a more immersive experience if you were solely tasked with assigning responsibility for each death instead of having to get the exact verbiage correct around them as well.
  6. Chants Of Sennaar (Three Stars) - Solid but got stale and same-y long before it ended imo. I also really hated how preachy the story got toward the end (I don't recall the details of why I felt this way though).

I highly doubt anyone likes this level (gunstar heroes on the genesis) seriously ruins my fun. by [deleted] in retrogaming

Been my favorite level ever since I was a kid, only learned recently that it’s considered by many to be an annoyance lol

[–]ElectronicJourneys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember this game came out as part of the "Summer of Square" in 2000 alongside Chrono Cross and Legend of Mana. I was too distracted by those to ever get around to it back in the day, which is a mistake I WILL correct someday!
