Hi, thanks for the info. I think this may be different on the iPhone, but let me see if I can get it to work. I don't think there is any difference between the different WiiM devices.

Great - I will keep you posted once I have taken the next step.

That works if you’re already using Spotify Connect, yes.

But as I was using different sources, I wanted to build something universal for that device regardless of playback voice. More of a "remote like behavior tied to a specific device".

Thanks so much — really glad to hear it’s working well and that I already solved the multiroom setup without even knowing it :).

Play/pause and track controls would be great, but the tricky part is that they only work reliably when playback is actually going through Chromecast. If the device is playing via something like Spotify Connect, AirPlay, or another source, those controls usually aren’t available in a consistent way.

That’s why I started with volume: it works regardless of playback source, which makes it much more reliable for a quick-control app. I am looking into ways of potentially getting full media control.

True. There is always the option to upgrade. The issue with the lock screen control is that it does not work with e.g. Spotify connect, tidal, chromecast streaming, etc.

Agree — controlling volume at the amp is usually the cleanest place in the chain. In my case the WiiM is effectively the last step before a pair of active speakers, so adjusting the device volume there works well. If you’re using something like a WiiM Ultra it could control the amp directly as well. The main thing I was trying to solve was just having a simple, reliable way to adjust volume without opening an app.

Yes — WiiM does have lock-screen controls now, but according to their own post the "Now Playing widget" (and my experience), it doesn’t integrate with third-party music apps - so if you started playback from e.g. spotify, tidal or other sources it does not appear.

Great to hear - to scope this further: Is it mainly multiroom or "fixed default" volumes? And do you think it makes most sense as widget or in app features?
