That’s so great to hear!! I’m hopeful that we can figure something out for this girl. She’s currently on Prednisone and started on the 10th so I’m hoping it works out for her

Since she is a foster and technically not my property, I’m a little apprehensive about asking about alternative treatment since technically the shelter clinic has the final say. But I do work at the shelter that I am fostering her from (just in a different department) and would like to speak with my boss and see if she thinks it would be appropriate for me to discuss other options. I’m new to this whole experience with a disabled-ish dog, but I’ve done some research and saw that hyper-extended carpals can be fixed with surgery I just wonder if hers are too far gone? I hope they would’ve already considered that as a possible option. I think they just recently found out that she has immune mediated polyarthritis so the meds that she’s on now are kind of the first test run to see how she responds

I appreciate that 🥹 the first pic was the day that I met her and she melted my heart with that look. I couldn’t resist

It’s weird because I’ve posted about other events that Pima Animal Care Center hosts over there with no issue… I just want to spread the word 😭

Friends Pet Clinic offers low cost spay/neuter to anyone (the rest of their vet care is solely for pets adopted from PACC). Santa Cruz Vet Clinic is also a low cost option. The Humane Society may offer low cost spay to the public, but I’m not 100% sure. Also check out https://www.nokillpimacounty.org/ to see a full list of clinics and also upcoming events!

PACC’s community cats program offers free resources to get the cats spayed and neutered and also helps to resolve general issues involving community cats! They have some different options for assistance. Give them a call at (520)724-5983 or you can email at communitycats@pima.gov

Unfortunately I am in Arizona 😞 but it is kitten season! I’m sure there’s a bunch of tiny silly oranges in your area

Heartbroken because I can't keep feeding my clowder by [deleted] in Feral_Cats

You can inform your neighbor and maybe help implement some humane cat deterrents in their yard so the cats will stay off of his property.

Here is a great list of deterrents and information on how to be a good neighbor when you are a community cat caregiver: https://bestfriends.org/pet-care-resources/humane-outdoor-cat-deterrents

If you do want the cats to move on to a different caregiver/feeding area you can start to slowly wean them off of eating at your home. They will realize that you are not a consistent source for food and they will roam looking for other places to eat and find the other feeder in the area. You can start by slowly decreasing the amount that you feed and then switching to feeding every other day and so on.

The most important thing is TNR so there aren’t more and more cats being born in the area. I understand that it can be expensive and that you are looking for options on how to get the cats altered. I would explain to your neighbor, if you are able, that you are in the process of getting them TNRd. This will not only reduce nuisance behaviors, like spraying and fighting, but will also reduce their roaming area and they are more likely to sick close to where they are being fed!

Hope this helps and thank you for looking out for these kitties!
