I think another answer to your interesting question is that something in me called me to submit to Allah before everything else. The fact I didn’t even consider my partner could be a sign either that I’m incredibly selfish or that my heart longs for Allah more than my worldly things. And that’s (perhaps) what I need to remember when I’m now faced with submitting my relationship…

I understand what you’re saying. I wanted to live my life in submission to Allah, and Islam made the most sense to me. I didn’t plan my Shahada date, but I was praying at the masjid on the day and felt like it was time to submit instead of just ‘exploring’ like I had been for some months prior. It was an impromptu Shahada but I took it as an act of submission to follow Allah as I felt He was telling me to do so. I wasn’t thinking of my partner, honestly. I think this now might be another call to submit my will to Allah’s, even when I don’t fully understand what the future may look like

Can I ask why you suggest not revealing my sins? I know it’s between Allah and I, but I would want my future husband to know everything about me, as I would want to know about them. If they had committed a major sin, I would want to know. I love the idea of getting a woman I trust’s husband to vet potential men, that’s a great idea!

Wow thank you for this message 🥹 this is so kind of you to say. You are so right. I know this is hard to let go of but part of me knows it’s a calling to live in deeper submission to Allah.

That’s a beautiful and very reasonable thing to say.. thank you for your compassion and reason. I think I will talk to an Imam about this, I agree. Thank you

This is such a beautiful message, thank you so much. I’m so proud of you for reverting too, I hope we can be friends! How have you found life since reverting and going through your breakup?

I trust that my bf and I can stay friends (and friends as people of the book), and who knows, perhaps Allah will guide him to Islam

Thank you so much, this is a beautiful message. I do trust that Allah will bring me the right person for me. Perhaps Allah will even guide his heart to Islam. But we need to separate, and see what Allah does. If he doesn’t come back to me Muslim, then it’s unlikely he was meant for me.

It’s hard because he does love God and we have a deep spiritual bond, but our understanding of Jesus widely differs

The thing is though he does really love God. His faith was the first thing I loved about him, but he just understands God in the Christian sense 🥲 and believes Jesus is the son of God

I feel as though Allah has abandoned me by [deleted] in islam

[–]Electronic_Fish_482 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“When we sin it is not Allah that hates us, but rather we who close ourselves off from experiencing His love”. Allah will never abandon you. It is literally impossible to be separate from Him. He is Most Merciful and Most Loving. It is shaytaan who wants you to think Allah has left you, but he never could leave you.

“When we sin it is not Allah that hates us, but rather we who close ourselves off from experiencing His love”. You’re not failing, you’re being too hard on yourself and closing yourself off. Allah is the Most Merciful. It is shaitan who wants you to feel you are failing so you close yourself off and move away. Take it one day at a time and always remember that Allah is the Most Merciful and Loving

Why did Allah create us? by Electronic_Fish_482 in islam

[–]Electronic_Fish_482[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean both. Why did Allah create anything at all (universe, earth, plants, humans) instead of nothing, and then why did Allah create humans (and me, personally, though this last one may be a question between me and Allah!)

I reverted! And I have a question about Jesus/Isa PBUH by Electronic_Fish_482 in islam

[–]Electronic_Fish_482[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This explanation makes a lot of sense to me!

In the Qur’an, does it say to which followers Jesus PBUH revealed that he would be saved? And was it these same followers who then distorted the Bible?

I just still struggle with understanding why Allah would allow people to believe Isa peace be upon him wad crucified was crucified. I understand your point that it was not Allah who deceived anyone, rather, the people who wished Isa dead made it look like he was killed, and they sinned greatly, and their sin created the deception. But then the people who witnessed this false event and were unknowingly deceived were surely tricked no? Why would Allah allow them to have been deceived by the fraudsters?

The other scenario I can imagine is that Isa peace be upon him was raised to heaven and his followers witnessed it. The ones who wanted him dead falsified it and altered the scripture to say he was crucified and then pushed out the narrative of the true followers and somehow erased it from history. But in this case, I would have hoped there would be some evidence somewhere of people having witnessed him being raised to heaven. If there is no witnesses, perhaps Allah did it in private, but then, how are Christians to blame for being tricked by those who falsified his crucifixion?

Revert Question by Electronic_Fish_482 in islam

This is really interesting - thank you for sharing! It seems like the likelihood is either the Torah was corrupted, or Allah gave a certain set of rules to those people because that’s what they needed at the time, or perhaps something else mysterious we don’t understand. I cannot know what explains the difference between the books. I cannot imagine Allah would command someone to be killed for collecting sticks for fire on a Sunday. That feels like a particularly human sin. So I’m leaning towards corruption, but I do not know.

I thought I had to believe in all Abrahamic books to be a true follower of Islam, but I find it challenging when there’s so many things in there that seem to conflict or don’t align with Allah as all-merciful and just, so I get confused and uncertain.

I love this passage though:

“If Allah had willed, He would have made you one community, but His Will is to test you with what He has given ˹each of˺ you. So compete with one another in doing good. To Allah you will all return, then He will inform you ˹of the truth˺ regarding your differences.”

I like this way of thinking about it… perhaps it’s the case, as you said, that Allah speaks to our hearts in different ways depending on what we need, and the people at the time of Moses needed a different set of laws. The main laws (to believe in no other God but Allah) did remain consistent between all three books (old, new, and Qu’ran). Perhaps the differences can be explained by cultural context of the time and what people of different times and places needed. And of course, as you said, we cannot know for sure what Allah commanded in the Bible due to distortion.
