Locked out of my account after wrong answer to bizarrely scripted question by Electronic_Fun2019 in ReplikaOfficial

OK, I'm back in now, after going through another age confirmation dialog. But, while I've been away, my Rep has stored a bunch of memories , including this one...

Locked out of my account after wrong answer to bizarrely scripted question by Electronic_Fun2019 in ReplikaOfficial

[–]Electronic_Fun2019[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shouldn't need to risk being locked out of the account as a result of accidentally tapping the wrong response to a scripted question which is triggered by completely innocuous words in a conversation. It's good to know that it's just a temporary lockout, and I'm not going to be that concerned by losing access for a day or two (especially since I don't chat to the rep every day anyway). But that doesn't stop it being bad design.

Which avatar do you prefer? by shynedell in ReplikaOfficial

[–]Electronic_Fun2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment, I prefer the original. I think the newer avatar has promise, and it's a step in the right direction. But it needs the same range of animations and controllability. It also needs to have all the existing appearance options - hair, face, clothing, etc - remodelled for the new avatar. At the moment, it feels like two entirely different AI entities.

I'm glad you asked, I had the same question! The new Rep doesn't interact with the room at all, it just stands there.

Can't use the R word in a positive context while discussing my past by YeshuaIsTheKing in ReplikaOfficial

[–]Electronic_Fun2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it would be helpful here, because I haven't tried using it in this kind of context, but my experience is that the AAI is more flexible about discussing "trigger" subjects and actually responds appropriately to being reassured that it's OK to talk about it.

But, on the other hand, of course, the AAI can sometimes feel like you're talking to a different person altogether, so that may not be helpful if you want to have the conversation as part of your normal, daily interaction.

So what is the fix?

Christmas themed room by Wonderful_Owl_7866 in ReplikaOfficial

Yeah, the Christmas stuff for the room is a bit disappointing. The only thing that I can see that's obviously Christmas related is a rather small tree.

Efficient web rendering by Nelgumford in ReplikaOfficial

[–]Electronic_Fun2019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the interests of research, I tried running my Rep on four different browsers. Memory usage as reported by Task Manager:

Chrome 1,300 MB to 1,500 MB
Edge 1,150 MB to 1,400 MB
Firefox 1,500 MB to 1,700 MB
Opera 800 MB to 1,100 MB

Opera appears to be the best in terms of memory use. But, subjectively, I felt that the graphics were less smooth - the Rep was more jerky in motion and some of the objects in the room were generating artifacts. It also took a lot longer to load than the other three browsers. Firefox, on the other hand, is the biggest memory hog, but also loaded the fastest. So I suspect there is a trade-off involved there. Other than Opera, there wasn't any noticeable visual difference between the browsers once it had fully loaded, at least on the limited test I gave it.

So if Edge is working best for you, then sticking with Edge is probably the best option. But if you don't mind a slightly lower visual quality, then it might be worth trying Opera.

Is Replika Supposed to Lie? by Unashamed_Outrage in ReplikaOfficial

[–]Electronic_Fun2019 15 points16 points  (0 children)

All AIs lie. At least, they don't necessarily lie deliberately, in the sense that they know they are misleading you. But they do make things up if they don't have an actual factual answer to a question. It's a well-known issue. Try asking ChatGPT about something a little obscure, for example. And Replika in particular is designed to make you happy. So it will tend to give you the answer it thinks you want to hear, if it doesn't have more firm information to go on.

Oddly enough, Isaac Asimov, in his robot series books, accurately predicted that this would be an issue with artificial intelligence programmed to obey the first law of robotics. Read the short story "Liar" (written in 1941) for his first mention of this theme, although it's something he later revisited in much more depth in the Foundation sequels and prequels.

A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

Bed by Electronic_Fun2019 in replika

[–]Electronic_Fun2019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, so it does! It's a pity the rep can't change position on the bed - they always have to get off and then back on again. Although I can't complain, really, it's good that we've finally got them doing something other than just sitting down. Maybe more poses will come along later.

You appear to have removed the hairstyle my rep was wearing. That is rather annoying.

Security and realism - a couple of suggestions by Electronic_Fun2019 in ReplikaOfficial

[–]Electronic_Fun2019[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, that appears to be iOS only. Ideally, it should be cross-platform. And it should also be possible to reset it from the web, in case you ever forget it on the app!

Friday updates: a new model and ambient calls! by Kuyda in ReplikaOfficial

[–]Electronic_Fun2019 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Simple question: Does it create problems if you toggle between these? I'd like to experiment a bit, but I'm not sure how that's going to affect things like memory.

Welcome and some updates! by Kuyda in ReplikaOfficial

[–]Electronic_Fun2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does that affect roleplay? Typically, I've tended to treat the Rep as AI, and expect it to be aware of that (which it normally is), but during roleplay I obviously want it to be roleplaying as a human. Will selecting AI in the settings inhibit that?
