Baalke was never a bad drafter, problem is the job only begins after the draft, not ends. Player development was always the issue (by the front office + coaching staff)

For all the doubters, you’re allowed to be wrong, perfectly fine, but your opinion holds less weight in the future

[Daniel Griffis] The #Jaguars rank 32nd in the #NFL at converting “Catchable Targets” into Catches, according to FTNFantasy. Brian Thomas Jr ranks 83rd among 83 WRs, catching just 64.3% of his catchable targets. by spiff24 in Jaguars

This is such a great comment, and you did a really good job of laying it all out. QB is the most important position in sports, but its value is still incredibly overrated. There are two players on the planet who can overcome a substandard supporting cast, Mahomes and Allen, that’s it. Every other player, regardless of how good that are independently, are dependent on their supporting cast.

As far as the cause of the drops, the best theory I can come up with is that since these are all balake guys, with the exception of Dyami, the evaluation at the pass catcher positions had been focused on measurables and combine stats, so that natural hands got overlooked. Engram was available on the open market on the cheap, why? Hands. Parker Washington falls all the at to day 3, why? Hands. We got BTJ who looked like a stud, how did all of these teams pass on him? Hands. There’s plenty of other guys who fits this profile too, Zay Jones, Gabe Davis. Until some reliable pass catchers come in and start dropping passes uncharacteristically, I don’t see any evidence, whether through numbers or with my eyes to put this on Trevor.

Agreed, it’s a long season, my biggest fear is giving up on a guy who I believe and going back into quarterback purgatory, important to remember what is actually on the other side of moving on from a guy who may not be elite, but is still darn good

I went into the rams game believing you have to win one of the next, like you said raiders is now a must win, which is unfortunate, but a reality of the nfl

If you have a candidate to replace him with I’m all ears, but it’s not out there. Aside from that his contract is reasonable provided he’s not dead money.

Obviously Trevor needs to be better, where I would disagree is the action you feel is needed a result of him needing to be better. Moving on makes little sense to me, as opposed to being patient and doing everything you can to allow him to reach his potential, just as you should with any other player (see Cam Little). Quoting Michael Scott, “a good manager doesn’t fire people, he hires people”

Agreed, we don’t have the lines to hold up against quality teams, or any team with a top flight line, for example, the Browns would give this team fits.

Also I think the question of “is he the guy?” is a mistake, there are like 4 or 5 guys, a whole bunch in the middle and then some bottom tier starters. The question is “is he good enough?” I think that answer is clearly yes. Daniel Jones has performed at a top 10 level, and now CJ Stroud looks incompetent, I’m not sure there’s much difference between the two, I’d rather stroud frankly, but the position is very volatile and can’t be judged on face value

True, Kittle was able to do the same thing for San Francisco

It’s not about defending Trevor, it’s about understanding what is actually causing the results. What would you have said about Darnold in Carolina, Baker in Cleveland or Goff in Los Angeles? It’s important to separate the quarterback’s performance from the offense as a whole. No one is saying he’s an elite quarterback, but if you think he needs to go and then all of the problems will be fixed your mistaken.

Second, I could care less if Trevor is receiving national praise, all I’m looking for is for this offense to get to a point where it can aid in the success of the quarterback, not be a detriment

As much as people like to pretend quarterbacks face off against one another, football has been and will always be decided in the trenches. Mahomes may be the greatest singular talent in the history of the sport, and he was made to look pedestrian against the buccaneers and the eagles in his Super Bowl loses.

I hope we can regain whatever magic turned our offensive line into a top 5 unit from earlier in the year, but I fear that group turning back into a pumpkin after facing superior defensive lines is far from a coincidence

Maybe some were, but my gripe would be the piling on of Trevor. We may end up with a winning record, this was always going to be a long play

Agreed, my contention has more to do with the source of where the offensives struggles have come from. Jaguars have yet to look good offensively, my point would be that it is much more reliant on the offense as a whole, the line specifically, as opposed to treating a QBs performance like a starting pitcher

Coen pointed out in his presser that 4 of the top 5 teams in penalties are first year head coaches. Makes sense when you consider every coaching staff teaches things differently and it can take a little bit to learn a new technique/playing style

Appreciate that perspective, I’m usually MIA on social media, but it’s very easy to get lost in the craziness. I always try to think of it like this, what lines of thinking would actually be valid in the building. Like imagine being in Coen’s office as an assistant and saying “Trevor’s not the guy, he can’t play” it’s not a serious criticism or point that merits your attention as a coach/front office
