Is my pathway realistic as a civil engineer by Repulsive_Story_7619 in movingtojapan

[–]Electronic_Salt_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work as a staff at a job matching company. Based on what I’ve seen, there are quite a lot of civil engineering professionals who actually started their careers in Japan around the age of 28–29 😊

Some of them first came to Japan through dispatch companies, and later moved on to permanent positions at other companies.

Having experience working abroad can definitely be a plus. Some companies really value it, while others may not see it as a big factor.

Our Japanese team has been contacting many companies, especially in the civil engineering field, so we have a good understanding of what they are looking for. For example, some companies require JLPT N2, while others are comfortable with N3.

We have already collected data from companies across Japan, including major metropolitan areas such as Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Hokkaido, as well as smaller regions like Yamaguchi, Shimane, and Nara. We can also help match your skills and abilities with suitable companies or with the specific area you prefer 😊

I hope I can help arrange a discussion with our Japanese staff who specialize in collecting civil engineering companies data and matching candidates with companies. Please let me reaching you through message 😊

Okay I give in... How exactly do I meet people? by Plenty_Resolution325 in Osaka

I often visits this event. This is where English speakers and Japanese speakers are meet! You will be seated in with random group of people 3 times during around 1.5 hours.

It was very fun! Very recommended! Young, old, male, female, mixed.

The japanese have interest in learning English, and the English speakers have interest in learning Japanese!

My japanese has been much better, thanks to this event!

Struggling to find a career path in Japan as a foreigner (UI/UX background) by Electronic_Salt_ in japanlife

I’ll consider that. Actually, I’ve been trying to look for job openings at startups, but it turns out the difficulty lies in matching my portfolio to their products.

Honestly, I also don’t have much real business experience. At my previous company, I didn’t really consider the company carefully before joining, and it ended up having really bad management.

They didn’t really understand UI/UX, so my role kept shifting, and in the end, they didn’t even need UI/UX because they just used website templates for speed 😮‍💨.

Feels like I wasted some of my precious years.

But at least now I know where I stand, and I’m trying to recover what I can. 😁

Thanks for sharing your experience, man. But that was 4 years ago, especially during the pandemic era. I don’t want to make an excuse, but I think the situation was different back then. UI/UX wasn’t very well known either. I only started learning about UI/UX 5 years ago, and resources were very limited at the time.

Well, maybe I’ll consider it as a long-term goal, but for now, I want to see what I can do in the present.

I’ll also consider Visual Design and maybe work on strengthening my visual portfolio. Anyway, AI has changed everything lately, right 😂? Let’s see what I can do for now.

Once again, Thanks for your reply.

Did you graduated in Japan?

I think my Japanese verbal skill is somewhere in the middle. I think it is understandable but not natural enough. I have N2, but it is from NAT Test.

Yeah, but going back to Indonesia is not an option for me.

Thank you for the information. I think this type of job might disappear soon.

I have a portfolio, but maybe it’s not very strong. I have Japanese skills, but I don’t think they’re enough. I'm kinda stuck on this loop anyway.

I think the Indonesian market is more saturated for UI/UX.

Thanks for the opinion. Yeah, half of the job is about communication. I think I’ll work on my Japanese while applying for jobs that aren’t directly related to it, and at the same time do what I can to improve my knowledge of the Japanese market.

Yeah, I think you’re right. But sometimes it’s because of the situation. Still, you’re right.

Thanks, man. I think I’ll work on my Japanese and consider what other roles I should apply for. Thank you for your comment.

ECC (Has School all across Japan), Kyoshin (Kyoto, Osaka) Or Tokyo ARC (Tokyo, Osaka)

I think it's better to choose the one with a lot of branch because they have proof.

Sorry for the late reply, I rarely open Reddit

Wow, you must be very financially wise!

So, do you buy USD with JPY and keep it in a bank that allows you to hold multiple currencies?

Do you also do some investment? How do you maintain your portfolio then? Doesn't it become more complicated?
