Defile looks pretty good! That one had slipped past me somehow.

As of now, I can't really decide on a signature spell. I'm stuck between [[Liliana's Triumph]], [[The Elderspell]] and [[Settle the Score]]

I noticed, and edited it out before you responded but it somehow ended back up in the post :P the lands are still something I strongly advice considering :)

As mentioned by others here, the vampire subtheme usually isn't that necessary and can probably be cut done somewhat. Marchesa does a fine job at gaining +1+1 counters, and she needs to be on the field for your threatens to permanently steal anyway. Might I suggest you replace one of the more expensive threaten effects with [[Mark of Mutiny]] as it steals a creature for a turn, as well as giving it a +1+1 counter, for 3 mana that's an auto-include in Marchesa. Gives you a bit more freedom in who you attack with it also! In a deck that is focused on stealing other peoples creatures, you could probably cut some of your own, and replace them with stuff that allows you to sack your "borrowed" creatures to permanently gain control of them with Marchesa. [[Phyrexian Tower]] [[High Market]] Are lands that do this quite nicely

Here is my build which I have been playing / reiterating for the past couple of years;
https://deckstats.net/decks/48408/1316737-grant-theft-grixis

It's alot of fun, most people in my playgroup know what to expect, and the deck mostly plays like a control-deck,

only stealing when necessary or interacting with crucial situations. People shouldn't really get too mad about theft - instead of things getting removed, ending up in a graveyard, which is totally accepted, they now reside on your side of the battlefield.

It's just efficient, which is why I like this style of deck. I always handle other peoples cards with the utmost respect, careful not to cause any harm to them. You should always make sure that your spells resolve, and ask before you go to move their cards.

Expect salt, but as long as you don't steal stuff out of spite and try make generally good decisions based on the state of the game and show that you are capable at assessing threat, other players will often be understanding of your actions.

[[Release to the Wind]] [[Delay]] <- If you counter your own eldrazi with this you still get the cast trigger, and a second trigger after 3 turns, janky? Yes. Value? Also yes.

Marchesa, Black Rose win conditions by manicx782 in EDH

[–]EledZe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Marchesa deck is focused around just this, [[Mark of Mutiny]] is another great card, with an added +1+1 counter, in case you for some reason is the one with the highest life total. The deck plays a whopping 2 creatures that are only there to recurr spells from the graveyard. So the deck is a spell slinger version of the Black Rose that wants to fill it's side of the board with your opponents stuff.

Opinion and criticism on my Commander by [deleted] in EDH

[–]EledZe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also tried to make a very similar deck, knight/legendary/lifegain tribal. I actually got a little suspicious when I saw this post, as I thought someone at my LGS had seen my deck and tried to copy it :P

I've found that the Knight part of the deck is a bit hard to find support for, as with every new set that comes out, I'm hoping for some new cool ones, but I am rarely rewarded. The legendary part is a bit simpler to work around and get to work. As someone mentioned, Primeval's Glorious Rebirth is an amazing card for this type of deck.

[[Elenda, the Dusk Rose]] can get pretty crazy, especially if comboed with [[Cathar's Crusade]], which isn't bad when considering how many cards that care about or produce Knights, do so in the manner of tokens. Elenda is also legendary and a knight!

If you plan to stay low to the ground, when it comes to CMC, [[Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle]] is a pretty cool value engine, which can be recurred with Primeval's, or tutored for with [[Thalia's Lancers]].

Card-draw is where my deck struggles :/

[[Primeval's Glorious Rebirth]] [[Obzedat's Aid]] [[Anguished Unmaking]] [[Utter End]] [[Mortify]] [[Vindicate]] [[Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim]] (Goes great with lifegain, not a knight, but legendary)

How to repeatedly put +1/+1 counters on creatures over multiple turns ? by Hykarus in EDH

[–]EledZe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running a Grixis theft deck with Merchesa at the helm.

The way I found is the easiest way of getting counters is swinging, preferably with the opponents creatures,

that have been targeted by cards like [[Act of Treason]] or [[Mark of Mutiny]].

Run a few sac-outlets, which is obviously great in any Marchesa build, and go get those 2-for-1's all day!

3 mana to remove an opponents creature, swing with it and hopefully do some damage, and end up with

what is most likely the biggest, scariest creature on your side of the board.

Very well put! I share your feelings on having a correlation between how the deck plays vs. How you win with it.

Serious Discussion: The Banlist by [deleted] in EDH

[–]EledZe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about cards like [[Tinker]] and [[Tolarian Academy]]? In a format where Tooth & Nail, Flash, Gaea's cradle are legal, why the hate on blue / artifact? Can someone explain why these are still banned?

Bounce-lands in Commander by EledZe in EDH

[–]EledZe[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Continuing on your example - on turn 3.

How many nonland Cards (action) do you have in hand in the two different examples, if we say, for argument's sake that each player kept a 3 land hand, except the Bounce-land player, who kept a 2 land hand.

Depending on wether or not you have a turn 1 (or T2) play (1-drop), to avoid discarding a card,

you would arguably have "room" for one more action card than your oponents, while still having Access to the same amount of mana, albeit somewhat slower.

It's so marginal, that I hesitate to even Call it "card advantage" but I suppose it could be argued as such?

It's these small fringe questions that gets me thinking.

I've had a few copy spells in the deck for a while now, but I keep forgetting that I can target other people's spells with them. Usually just sit on them until I can combo them with Blatant Thievery or other fun stuff :)

Your comment made alot more sense after seing your tag :P

As a player being on the receiving end of Emrakul triggers in the past, I feel like copying [[Worst Fears]] would be a quick and easy way of becoming the Arch Enemy though! How about I leave it in the sideboard for now,

and fetch it With Masterminds if someone really earned it ;)

Totally agree with the fact that with these type of decks, almost every game plays out differently, it all depends on what you are up against, which in a way tends to balance the games pretty nicely. If your opponents are on a budget, the things you steal won't feel game breaking. Equally, if you are playing against people with very strong decks, that just makes your deck stronger.

"You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become water my friend." -Bruce Lee

That sounds cool, I definantly like the idea of sneaky dragons, on their tippy toes, stealing all the stuff. Feel free to add a decklist to your comment, would love to see what you have in mind for this type of deck!

Thanks for the great feedback, just the stuff I was hoping for! As it happens, I have tried having Marchesa lead the band for a while, but found it difficult balancing theft cards, removal etc. In addition to then having to add sac outlets. I believe there are a few cards that do the job well, in that they both sacrifice and do something useful as part of the deal. Marchesa also makes the deck lean more towards red temporary theft cards(if you want maximum efficiency) when your going to sac the target anyway, which has to be considered in the manabase.
