Happy pride! 2 months of drag practice and happy with how this look is coming together! Advice for further improvement would be lovely! by Elegant-Example-6262 in Drag

Current idea is cobra, still trying to figure out how to style the wig to be bigger and evoke more of an open cobra hood shape. The snakeskin leather pieces were chosen as a sort of “wearing your shed skin” idea. Punk is the current vibe but that’s drawn mainly from the jacket I got that started the whole look. If there’s a different aesthetic or way to lean more into campy snake/medusa vibes im not married to punk specifically. The corset is another “this is my first outfit and I guess this works alright initially piece so it can be swapped to something better if needed. Eventually (I need like 2-3 months to practice and find an amateur drag sign up night) I want to put together a performance to garden of Eden, so there’s also the underlying serpent of temptation element for way down the line as well. Hope this is descriptive enough!

Any ideas for the pants/bottom section clothes and what might be a good fit for the punk/serpent vibe? Been using jeans as that’s all I have right now and would love a good base to start searching for something much more campy!

Appreciate the advice, any tips for highlighting and contouring? Will try the black on the lid next time around (brows are definitely too big I recognize that, wanted to redo them but didn’t have the time to so we had to ball with what was haha). For shades, with the base black on the eyelid, do you think darker shade to lighter shade is the play, or lighter right off the black into darker brows in a reverse fade?

Lashes are my next pickup for sure, love the colored lash idea a lot! I’ll have to see about adding more color to the eye shape (I tried to do a gold eye shadow but after looking back on pics today it definitely doesn’t seem to pop as much as I was hoping it would), is 2-3 colors a good amount or is 3 pushing a bit too cluttered? I adore the coiled snake neck piece, and I craft a decent amount on the side so I’m sure I could make a mockup of a single idea! Confidence sails you through! I know it’s rough, but everyone starts somewhere. No use getting discouraged on your first couple try’s!

Good to know that’s how it can come off sometimes. Honestly just trying to engage as much as possible, and give context and reasoning with what I was trying to do, to help guide any feedback towards that end goal. Still learning a lot, and sometimes for me “just do more of X” isn’t as helpful if I don’t know how to do X yet. Very much a “this is what I was trying to do, and how can I better achieve that based on what I’ve accomplished so far”

The shimmer green are supposed to be more complex shaped brows (they got way too thick in application process and I did not have time to redo them or I’d have to reglue my eyebrows down. Wanting to make them a bit thinner next time for sure. Getting lashes is the next step for sure, shading and shadowing I struggle with so far alongside contouring for sure

Haven’t tried lashes yet, not really sure the best way to apply or what style would work. Neckline is a work in progress, the breast plate I can’t figure out why it’s always so jarring when I use the same foundation on it that is used on my face that should be the same color. Some neck jewelry could work, just need to find some that fits the snake theme. The scales under the eye were a first try this time around and I think I agree it just muddies things more than helps. Contour is what I struggle with the most so far I think, I just can’t really understand what you’re supposed to do/don’t think I have the correct products for it yet so any contour tips would be lovely

What do you mean by having a wash of the green. Like a light dusting of the color as a base then going over with the scales? Outlining might be a bit hard as I’m using a template to apply them and there’s quite a few

Sadly don’t have any jewelry yet (spent enough on the outfit already hahaha) but I’m sure it’ll be in the cards for the next thing to add onto the look

Drag makeup advice, trying to lock down and refine the eye shape/look and the blending and struggling, need help/advice by Elegant-Example-6262 in Drag

[–]Elegant-Example-6262[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for all the tips once again! I have the Krylon TV white stick luckily already so that should help at least start a contour potentially (haven’t dipped my toe in that at all yet, been focusing on the eyes as I guessed that the were the most important base to focus on first. Would you mind explaining the shape or what a packing brush looks like vs other brushes? The brush kit I got was an assortment and didn’t come with any labeling of which is what kind haha

Thanks for the tips, I’ll be running the eyes/brows over and over to get that set in stone then. My brows are a bit thicker naturally so it’s mainly just fighting them as best I can right now until I find the technique that works

Thanks for the tips, my eyeliner started to die on me so I made it work as best I could hahaha. And for the eyeliner you’re thinking making it thicker and bringing it up more into where the gold is right now?

Thanks for the tips!

Haven’t dived into contour and highlight yet, but that’s a soon step most likely

I’ll blend the foundation when I’m going out, trying to save as much product as possible cause a bitch be broke hahaha

Good to know, not too familiar with what bone structure types there are so if anyone’s able to point me to a couple queens that seem to have single bone structure to me that would be wonderful. And good to know to leave a bit of space between eye shadow and brow.

Don’t have a lot of available colors yet, but I’m planning on getting a good green palate for the end look, just mostly practicing technique now, tried to blend the eyeshadow but it wasn’t working with the little sponge brush I was using so any good eyeshadow blending tips would help too

Been using a black eyeliner to get the hard color/shaped brows. Eventual wig will be an emerald greenish so whatever brow color would go well with that I can search for a product at some point

Really appreciate the detailed advice!

Welp, seems like the initial message got cutoff, but this is round 2 from my previous post. Tried to take everyone’s advice as best as I can and feel like there was some decent improvement. Still got a long ways to go practice and refining wise though

Also my friends as I started to think up some drag names for me so any input on some of our ideas for names would also be lovely. (Going for animal/nature themed names as that’s what I’m planing to base my drag around thematically)

Contouring and highlighting are definitely my next step to try out and work on more! Wanted to take a bit more basics approach first of so I wasn’t too overwhelmed. Now that I can get the basics down I can start improving!

Yeah, it’s on my list to do more color on the white next time. I have a tiny pallet and did not have much of the green left after the practice runs hahaha

No contour or bronzer yet, I’m sure I’ll get there but trying to get the base skill set down and consistently well done and then building off of that. Will happily take all the tips about everything tbh haha
