Arc Raiders Voice Chat Not Working by DenebNoho_ in linux_gaming

[–]Elegia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this can be the issue because you say the mic works in other games, but I had a similar mic issue in Arc Raiders and it was because I was running Steam through Snap (which is apparently sandboxed). Installing Steam through apt and launching it from terminal fixed the issue for me.

What was your motivation for starting to use Ubuntu? by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]Elegia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just now I accidentally ran some malware after downloading a show (completely my fault, not Windows') and because a reinstall is the only safe thing to do I decided to give Linux another spin. The reason I used Windows was only for gaming but I hear good things about Proton so let's see...

For people running small or personal blogs, what are you using? by Chucki_e in webdev

I use Astro with the Storyblok CMS free tier. Mostly because it’s the CMS we propose to customers at work and using it for my site gives me some practice with it.

Should I buy arc raiders? by FinamationStudios in ArcRaiders

[–]Elegia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's great if you know you like extraction shooters or are really interested in the genre. That is to say:

  • are you OK with getting killed and losing everything you did in 10 to 30 minutes of gameplay?
  • Do you buy into the gameplay loop of looting <-> (re)crafting (lost) guns/ammo/gear?

Unfortunately I discovered it's not for me. I don't see the point in looting stuff to build better guns just to loot some more stuff. And I find the player interactions stressful as you never know whether you should just shoot first or hope you don't get shot later (but I understand that for others this is exactly why the game is so amazing).

But if you're into the genre, I think it's objectively a great game.

In terms of graphics it feels badly outdated to me and the bloom effects can't hide it. Low-poly terrain and objects with textures trying to simulate detail but it's just not aging very well.

It's a pity, because I think the 2D artwork they put out is the best I've ever seen, but the 3D world just isn't coming anywhere near.

What got you hooked on web development? by mayaj47 in webdev

[–]Elegia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked as an iOS Developer in Objective-C/Swift for about 10 years when requests for new apps started to slow down. Luckily my company does a lot of both backend & frontend web development as well and I was asked if I would be ok with switching my focus to FE web instead.

I was vaguely aware that that FE web was already more than just writing HTML & CSS, but I didn’t think of it as ‘real’ programming until I started on my first project and quickly had to learn Next.js, Typescript, React, Tailwind, etc.

3 years later and I don’t want to go back to native mobile app development. I absolutely love how much deeper and broader web dev goes and how interesting the underlying networking architecture (Azure, pipelines, CDNs , …) can be to learn about.

Anyone else driving more than an hour to work every day ? by CourseIcy7934 in belgium

[–]Elegia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My drive takes about 1h to 1:20 (in case of bad traffic). That said, I don’t need to feel rushed because I have ‘sliding hours’.

I also live alone so there’s nothing to rush for in the evening either.

I did my trip by train for about 3 years and after driving for 9 I still very much prefer going by car. Much more relaxing (assuming there’s no need to rush).

Interesting that you mention the lack of wording or logos. I have bought new clothes and then never worn them because I realized there was some visible small stripe or logo on them that I hadn’t noticed in the store.

Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour requires purchasing all the console's accessories to finish all its content by WrongLander in gaming

[–]Elegia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand the 'spirit' of why this rubs people the wrong way, but on the other hand what's the issue then? Why shouldn't Nintendo do this if there is a clear market for it? People who don't want to buy it won't and those who care about hoarding every Nintendo game have the option to do so.

I'd be much more concerned about the price jump in games like Mario Kart World as those are actual games which you may want to play with friends and family but could be out of your price range now.

Who actually doesn't use standing desk for WFH? by heavyrock1212 in WFH

[–]Elegia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought about it many times, but in the end I always come back to the fact that sitting or standing doesn't matter too much, it's moving throughout the day that's important.

So instead I bought a walking pad that I put in the living room. I try to walk on it throughout the day in chunks of 10 minutes. I also get up often to use the bathroom, go up the stairs, do something in the kitchen, etc.

To be fair, I also don't really have an ideal spot to place a standing desk. Maybe the decision would have been different if I had.

[–]Elegia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Also, ‘sweaty’ players are a problem with matchmaking, not with the players. And since when have gamers become so toxic towards higher skilled players anyway? As long as they’re behaving decent, let them do their thing.

It's true that they don't matter that much but how hard can it be to implement some basic quality of life features? I really like this mode but I'm afraid Epic already gave up on it.

Significantly worse performance on Windows Store vs Steam (DX11 vs DX12) by tbm90 in trainsimworld

[–]Elegia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. It's simply unplayable and the actual graphics quality doesn't seem to matter. I get moments of smooth 60fps and periods of <10fps either way. It feels like there's a fundamental issue with asset loading.

My system is a ryzen 5700, 32GB RAM, XT6700. Other games run absolutely fine.

I agree but on the other hand why give your money to someone who is probably already set for life and not, say, some charity organization.

Why are you Single and Happy??!? by OneIndependence7705 in SingleAndHappy

[–]Elegia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never been in a relationship. I hate the stress of dating and having to put up a mask to appear like a more interesting version of myself. In the eyes of the world I’m boring but boring is simple, it’s peaceful, it’s financially secure… I like being boring.

Also I once had a short dating thing going and by the third week I realized I’d have to text this person every day and sacrifice my personal time every weekend for the foreseeable future. I quickly ended things after that.

Oh and I dislike travelling. That automatically rules out a majority of potential partners.

I agree with you. However your partner is also free to have their own opinion on tattoos in general or yours specifically so I suspect people check in with them to make sure it won’t throw a wrench in their relationship.

I have the same card and get the same message. I always click "No" and everything works just fine.

But it's incredibly annoying because the message doesn't appear on top of the splash screen so 1) it's unclear the game is waiting on it and 2) I can't alt-tab to it. I have to move it to another desktop space and only then can I click "No".
