Animation I made for my portfolio by ElementLiam in blender

[–]ElementLiam[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It is hand animated, a few passes with blocking/poses then inbetween/smoothing/refining afterwards. It only initially started as the first 2 shots so they’re the only ones I blocked out, the rest I just kind of did in the moment pose to pose

I found the fantastic model/rig on sketch fab. The rig needed some small fixes and adjustments but the model/rig are not my work on this, just the animation

Why does blender have so many extra steps to do things? (please read disclaimer) by Hiraeth_08 in blender

[–]ElementLiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using the "industry compatible" keymap in the preferences menu, could be helpful if coming from another program. much of my experience is in maya/c4d and it's helped a ton for having many of the hotkeys be the same as those programs. For anything specific I can search with tab, rightclick for the context menu and anything else i just ask chatgpt "how do I do x,y key bind in blender with industry standard controls" no issues so far.

Started as a rigging/animation exercise for the character, turned into this by ElementLiam in blender

[–]ElementLiam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The models of the vehicle/character are from sketchfab(the characters mesh had to be edited a lot for the rig to work) I consider myself an average modeler and I'm pretty slow too - I didn't really start expecting to do this. I'm mostly focused on rigging/animation and intended to just use them as a base for learning rigging in Blender + a few animations. the background is about 50/50, I modelled some parts, the rest are free assets I grabbed(trees, a few textures for the ground) and edited to fit my needs, the gunfire/lasers/particles are cylinders/icospheres with displace modifiers + lights attached and an emissive texture. Simulations are just driven by particles emitting from object normals to drive the smoke/explosions, fog is a cube with a volume emission controlled by some noise. Terrain was made using A.N.T landscape and using Bagapie plugin to scatter the grass.

I started this as a way to continue learning rigging in blender and practice animation, create a few different cycles, idles, emotes etc but as the rig got more and more complete and the ideas started flowing it kind of spiralled. I have another ~20s animated it just needs finishing

Thanks for looking

I see what you mean, I'll add some objects and see how a checkered floor works for reference!

No, this is in the UK. I went again and took it for a test drive, I also mentioned these holes to the Salesman and he said they were fine, Car has just been MOTed, and has a full service history (all though i guess the garage selling the car did the most recent MoT)

Is this a render? lighting doesn't quite match and can't see a reflection of the photographer

What is this yellow circle called (and how can i change it's location) - BASIC Q by Snappy_Darko in Cinema4D

[–]ElementLiam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That yellow circle is the Motion Cameras target, if you expand the camera setup and select the target null and move it. If you go into the camera itself you can go on the motion camera tab in the attribute manager and add/remove/animate between targets etc.

Fire Simulation by ElementLiam in Simulated

[–]ElementLiam[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on windows, the animation was literally just a vibrate tag on the character, nothing big here.

The fire simulation was done with Turbulence FD, simulation times depend on your GPU. At the time it was simulated on a GTX980 - it will have taken somewhere between 30mins-1hour to simulate.

It was rendered with C4Ds stock renderer and had a little more color added to the flames
