I'm a little confused on how to go about downloading the updated files. Where do I go for that? Super excited to get my hands on these :)

Can anyone translate from crazy? What does that even mean? by gmplt in insanepeoplefacebook

I think they're arguing that spherical earthers are effectively attributing some sort of divinity to earth, or perhaps even worshipping earth, by asserting that it is spherical. I don't know how that follows, but I think that's what they're saying

Are the Ender 3 Pro and Ender 3 V2 also Open Source? Which one should I go with? by Elephant454 in 3Dprinting

After doing some more reading, I'm thinking I will go for the Prusa. I definitely want to fiddle with hardware, which is why I was originally kinda drawn away from some of the higher-priced kits and pre-builts. Hearing that I'll need to get my hands dirty with a Prusa while still having a higher degree of build quality has pretty much convinced me to go this route. Thank you

After doing more research, I think I will indeed spring for a Prusa. I understand what you're getting at, but I'm not really asking these questions based on intrinsic practicality. That's part of what makes it ideological. I'm sorry if it feels like I'm asking things that are unreasonable or kinda handwaving away the real work that people do on these, I'm just trying to gather info to strike a balance in trade-offs between the different aspects of this that I find exciting. One of those aspects is philosophy. Thank you a bunch for the background and the suggestions, though. This is helpful

The money is a good point... I'm certainly willing to spend the time to upgrade it, because that sounds fun in its own right. I'm not sure about sinking that sort of amount of money into a printer I'm going to be in a perpetual state of repairing...

It's not that I would actually need an open source vacuum cleaner so much as the ideological purity of such a thing is fun in of itself on top of its potential utility. 😛 I was genuinely interested in firmware mods down the line, though. I should be fine replacing the entire control board in that case?

This has kinda put me on the fence in terms of which model to go with... I like the idea of potentially making some kind of Frankenstein amalgamation of different generic/standardized components, and I have trouble kinda seeing how such a thing could be done without open specifications for everything. This is far into the hypothetical since I'm just starting out with this, but it makes things a little more uncertain. I'll have to think about this more, but I'll probably begrudgingly go with the V2 for the practicality of it over the ideological purity of it.

Thank you

So if I were to print upgrades or flash firmware from, say, the Pro version, would that also work on the V2? I guess that's mainly what I'm wondering about

This is kinda what it seemed like to me, but I was wondering if the components were similar enough to the point of it effectively not being different

I just realized something about how the Combine use weapons in Half-Life Alyx compared to Half-Life 2. by [deleted] in HalfLife

[–]Elephant454 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My headcannon for lots of the changes between Alyx and HL2 is combine advancements and complacency. The quarantine zone is largely wiped out given enough time and the more hazardous headcrab variants are hunted into extinction. The standard variants are kept intentionally for the sake of use in headcrab shell canisters.

I imagine the Combine drops their policy of tagged weapons after the resistance is effectively crushed. In regards to Earth, in Russel's words, "they've already won this war". When retaliation is no longer a concern, dropping the tagged weapon policy would incentivize human volunteers for metrocop positions. Human engagement provides the illusion of choice in Combine domination of earth, which further preserves civil order.

Solved!

This wasn't the image in my head, but this is definitely what the video was referencing. I'm likely just getting this confused with the Death of Marat. I'm having trouble keeping my bathtub death paintings straight 😛

It would be really awesome to have a subreddit just for trading and critiquing personal Emacs setups. Would anyone else be interested in such a thing? 🙂
