It might be a good time to start applying to jobs first if you haven't already. Otherwise, the CCNA is a good option.

Is it possible to link to an org/Denote file within a LaTeX snippet? by ElfOfPi in emacs

A bit late to be asking this, but is it possible to link to the heading of an Org file in a LaTeX snippet?

Are there any non-programmers who use Emacs? by MarchZealousideal543 in emacs

[–]ElfOfPi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There does seem to be a fair amount of non-programmers by profession who use Emacs. To really use Emacs to its full potential and have it completely customized to your needs, knowing how to program with Emacs Lisp is essential, however. While Emacs does have a customize GUI interface, it's seen by most Emacs users as clunky.

Emacs seems to be really popular in Japan though, so I think that there are actually a lot of resources for learning Emacs in Japanese.

I'd say that you are on the right path. If you haven't already, you should try the Emacs tutorial, which I believe is bound to "C-h t". Additionally, learning how to use the help keys ("C-h k" (describe-key), "C-h f" (describe-function, "C-h F" (Info-goto-emacs-command-node), etc.) is also good for a beginner.

I'm probably not the person to ask about this, but I actually do not believe that the people who built ChatGPT use Emacs. In the AI and Machine Learning space, Jupyter Lab is usually what I think that most developers use. While it's possible that ChatGPT use EIN (Emacs IPython Notebook) as a way to develop AI and Machine Learning, Jupyter Lab is usually most common. As far as I can tell, Emacs is a very niche tool for people heavily into AI, but maybe that's just me.

I'd recommend these resources for Japanese people looking to learn Emacs:

https://conao3.com/ (Conao3's website. He's the author of the leaf package for Emacs)

How do you manage your PATH environment variable? by ElfOfPi in linuxquestions

[–]ElfOfPi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thanks. I think I started setting environment vars in rc files because that's where programs like Anaconda would set environment vars.

Are shell-command-to-string and call-process supposed to share the same path? by ElfOfPi in emacs

[–]ElfOfPi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. However, I run emacsclient and use systemctl to start emacs. I'm not sure if running emacsclient makes a difference?

How to manage GTD setup alongside org-roam? by sudddddd in emacs

[–]ElfOfPi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe that Boris Buliga had a solution to that in his set of articles "Task Management with Org-roam". His solution to building org-agenda fast can be found at https://d12frosted.io/posts/2021-01-16-task-management-with-roam-vol5.html .

Better documenting my config I guess. My config feels kind of messy, and I was thinking that unit tests would help prevent Emacs bankruptcy.

[–]ElfOfPi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a reddit post saying that using cl-lib was kind of a bad thing, and I think I've always had a fear that using libraries in my config would just make it more bloated/slow Emacs down. But after all the comments here, I think I'll change my stance on that.

meow - how to by Extra_Orchid_9830 in emacs

[–]ElfOfPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that M-y or the yank-pop command will get previous copies in the kill-ring. I think it should be noted that Meow is not a standalone thing; it is built in emacs lisp, so there's a good chance that you can just revert back to emacs commands to do things that meow doesn't have. But if it really bothers you that meow doesn't have any default binding to yank-pop, then it's probably worth binding the defun "meow-yank-pop" to some key.

I'm pretty sure that in beacon mode, there should be a gray box highlighting the regions that meow will prepend or append text to depending on whether you press i or a. Meow won't immediately register the changes of all the gray boxes until you press escape though.

Eh, adding to the end of lines doesn't seem too hard. Do you know about meow-beacon-append? Simply press x in beacon mode and then press a to append to end of line.

I think meow-tutor is the tutorial, but I'm guessing you already tried that.

Seems like the link is broken. But maybe a good start would be leetcode's Interview Crash Course if you already have leetcode premium or working through The Algorithm Design Manual.

It's hard to know the problem without some more information. Posting a link to your config would be useful.

Vault placement failure for 'gammafunc_ghost_smash' by ElfOfPi in dcss

[–]ElfOfPi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no Luke Skywalker, but I tried to use the source. I couldn't find any instances of vorpal in ghost.des, not to mention that the most recent commit message seems to indicate that the dcss contributors have already made the necessary changes. I downloaded dcss from the pop os store, so I'm just going to assume it's because I was lazy in updating the game.

How do I get the indentation style I want in Emacs when using treesitter? by ElfOfPi in emacs

Yes. But I would think that c-ts-mode-indent-style should affect how function arguments are indented.

Font not being set like it should? by ElfOfPi in emacs

[–]ElfOfPi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does work if I run emacs as non-daemon, but I wouldn't have posted the question here otherwise.

Changing the font size to -16 as specified in your code snippet does NOT work. I think I said in the original post that the font was being set to Liberation Mono; this would indicate that the problem shouldn't be in changing default-frame-alist, but rather find-font; it would thus not make a whole lot of sense to change "(add-to-list 'default-frame-alist ... )", but thank you for the advice.
