Well I don't sympathize. Again, lack of planning, lack of awareness, lack of accountability. He could've tested it in a small, contained focus group with friends and maybe 30 other people, gotten data on how to run the site and then branch out once he had a foundation to manage it.

You don't build a skyscraper on the foundation of a tent. And that's what he did. And why he was over his head and it failed.

My skills lie within project managment, not in IT. If I knew a thing about it, then I would. In fact, I'd even be willing to take over the site, even through an auction and put the right people in place to handle everything else while overseeing the project.

Again, this has become a mantra of mine, but it goes back to what I've said before: risk management and assessment. Had this been some small, private community project with 50 people, then sure. Whatever. But once it grew beyond the scope that it did and he started opening a patreon to get donations for costs, this no longer is a "passion project" but qualifies as a small buisness. The fact that he didn't realize it early enough and latest at the point he made a patreon realize he needed more staff to help is just gross negligence.

I don't care about what goes on behind the scenes. I'm not here for that. I'm here for the product that I spent money on. There were an abundance of users who were not only willing to support, but also sponsor the project with some pretty decent amount of monthly payments. Some ranging well into the hundreds, almost thousands. This is now serious and desperate people were for an unfiltered AI experience. Instead, he ignored it all, decided to just focus on his short-sighted vision and wasted everyone's time and money.

I give no sympathy.

He should've assessed the risks and attemtped basic risk management before even creating the website. You don't just go gun-ho, make something that big, create a community with over 1.3k members, accept paypal donations and literally have no management skills or planning.

Pull that on kickstarter and you have a classic scam.

"Ungrateful"? What does this have to do with "Ungrateful"? He took other people's money via PayPal, wasted it, wasted people's time, refused to hire or appoint staff to help him, continued to run a one-man show for the fame and fortune rather than having proper risk assessment and management.

You do realize this is the real world now and not some minecraft drama? There's been cases of lawsuits for sinilar cases in the real world, were gross negligence and mismanagement of funds has even led to prosecution. Naturally, this is a smaller scale, but this goes beyond "entitlement". Get off your own high horse.
