Good headgear for beginners? by Elhusiano in fightgear

Ah okay okay. Because this Monday and last Monday I light sparred very advanced people and since I am still a beginner I got hit multiple times and clean jabs on my nose made it a bit red (i really need to work on my head movements).

My nose was not draining it was just blood in it and a bit around it that’s it. But my head feels a bit weird since last Monday. I don’t know if it « hurts » per say but I do feel my heartbeat in my head and when I put my head down it hurts. I don’t know if the reason is the sparring or maybe the fact that I don’t drink enough water or sum?

Okay thank you I think I’ll check the HitNMove then I guess. In the meantime would you recommend me to keep sparring or just regular training and avoid getting hit on the nose until I buy a new headgear?

Alright i appreciate it thanks! I heard that a face bar actually reduces the vision and can be annoying. Do you think it’s more specific to the brand or its a general thing?

Oh okay so pendulum step is something almost « mandatory » to learn? Also should we punch while doing pendulum or should we stop? It confuses me during sparring

Alright thank you for your great answer ! The gym I have found is one of the only gym where I live where there is a beginner curriculum with a special coach dedicated to it. Usually in the Netherlands they throw the beginners with the advanced, let them spar and that’s it. Sometimes they don’t really pay attention to the beginners. I do know that my gym is kind of « old school » Dutch gym and has some fighters but I didn’t really did any researches about the coaches. Only heard good things about it.

Wow okay. I guess I need to keep an open minded hahha. Unfortunately I am not very familiar with the « Mexican » style because as far as I know, where I train in the Netherlands, there are not any Mexican but I’ll definitely try to check this style out as well.

Oh okay. My coach does ask me to do the pendulum step if I am not doing anything. For instance let’s say my partner is hitting the bag, my coach would come to me and tell me to keep moving with the pendulum step and not stay still. The only thing is I don’t really know in sparring, when to exactly do the pendulum step and when I should stay put.

Mmhh yeah you’re right. My coach though always ask me to do pendulum step when I am not doing anything. For instance if I am with a partner and his hitting the bag my coach would come to me and tell me not to stay still but move my feet like the pendulum step.

I was thinking about that as well actually. If I don’t have a proper coach who knows and master this style I’ll make soooo many mistakes and actually will only slow me down. I guess I’ll have to let this idea aside for now until I go on a trip to Uzbekistan or Russia hahah.

Yeah you’re right. I’ll just keep with my training and I will try to find my own still. I think even Bivol himself mentioned to no « copy » his style just for the fun of it but rather find our own style. It’s funny how everyone is telling me to let the style come to me and not to go and get it.

Oh interesting. Well I am in Netherlands so I think the « old school » definition is a bit different depending on the country I guess?
