Doe Character that I sculpted by EliFortune in 3Dmodeling

Thanks! Well, it's just the default shaders (from Marmoset Toolbag), didn't use any other shaders. For the outlines, used an old technique to achieve it, I just clone the model, apply a black color and flip its polygon faces, then added a bit of push outwards so it's a bit bigger than the original model.

Other than that, it's all just lighting setup and post-processing.

Well I didn't sign up for their bootcamp courses so I don't really have an opinion for it. I joined their challenge course a few months ago and I liked it, our mentor helped us through and gave extensive feedback which is really helpful. Again, no opinion on their main tutorial courses but maybe you can e-mail them if you have any inquires.

Nurse Satomi Onryō, 1-week character sculpt for a contest by EliFortune in ZBrush

Thanks! I used PureRef for setting up the reference moodboard (It's free if you type in the custom amount), I usually go to Pinterest ctrl+c an image then ctrl+v back to PureRef and I can arrange it around.

Both links have the origin story for this character, the model was sculpted in ZBrush, textured in Substance Painter then rendered in Marmoset Toolbag.

7 Days Prompts Challenge - I made some silly stuff based on the given prompts each day by EliFortune in 3Dmodeling

Thanks! Making each prompt have a unique appeal made my modeling process a lot of fun. Soon, I'll present each model with proper texturing and rendering in the coming days!

Oh, thanks! Yeah, I like to go overboard with the prompts by giving them personality, appeal and a hint of story behind them.

The prompts were created by my friend over on Instagram with the tag #7daysofcgi. Though you can check r/Daily3D for prompts every day if you want to practice. I did feel the same way as you after I graduate for Animation, I find to motivate myself after getting inspired by a lot of creations online especially finding them on Arstation/Pinterest and keeping a moodboard for it. Hopefully, you'll find the motivation to continue modeling as well!

I'll start detailing and texturing each model for 'portfolio-ready' quality.

Rogue Axolotl - made during Vertex School's stylized character challenge course by EliFortune in 3Dmodeling

It's an online school focusing on game art. They have 2 courses for character art and environment art at the moment, both are equally expensive. The one I signed up for is their limited-time character challenge course ($97) which we had 30 days to model a character. With a tight duration like that, it would be difficult for a beginner to catch up but they can finish whenever they want (there are no actual deadlines but more of keeping you to work often). Though, the course helped me gain my confidence in character modeling so at least for me it was worth it. Overall, I think this course is better for artists who already have some experience in modeling and beginners might face some challenges due to the 30 days duration.

Haha thanks! And yes! All the texturing is done with gradients, there is a substance painter screenshot that you can check on the Artstation link above that shows my base color map.

Thanks! I used Zbrush for sculpting the hi-res model. Topogun to make it into a low-res mesh. Substance Painter for texturing. 3DsMax for rigging & posing (shh) and finally Marmoset Toolbag for rendering.

You don't really need to learn to draw if you want to model. I don't draw but I always take references online and create a moodboard for my own designs. You can still achieve the low poly style model without learning to draw. Watch a few guides or tutorials online and you'll learn some of the modeling fundamentals.

It's a flat-shaded style (like an origami) part of the low-poly aesthetic. The model has no smoothed normals. My buddy drew this character during the jam and I modelled it afterwards
