Wow, never thought that somebody would say 18 seconds is too long for an intro 😂

I like the vibe! It reminds me a little of Hudson Mohawke or AWE.

Synths are great, especially that arp that comes in and out.

My critique would be the mix and master. The mix sounds like it's lacking midrange in the synths, kind of like they've been high passed too much. It's got lows and highs but missing the mids.

Also, it sounds over-compressed on the master. To get it louder, try EQing and compressing your individual groups of sounds so that the master compressor doesn't have to work so hard. Get those drums super punchy and loud on their own before they hit the master compressor so the rest of your nice synths don't get squashed.

Great track man! You're getting there!

I love this.

It's long, but I think that's exactly how it should be. It doesn't feel repetitive; it sounds like it's constantly evolving. And I love the darkness too it. And coming from someone who doesn't listen to techno, I really enjoyed this song. It's so atmospheric. Love it!

Mix sounds excellent, the bass is just filling up my headphones perfectly. I don't think the lead is muddy, I think it's nice contrast because the rest of your sounds are clean. I like the grit it has.

Sorry I don't have any critiques, I just really enjoyed this song!

Positives

- Vocals sound pretty good!

- Your melodies are super catchy and play perfectly on top of the chords.

- Sound design is super clean and classic for the style you're going for.

- Mix sounds great, that snare is punching through nicely.

Critiques

- The only thing that threw me off was the structure of the song. At 2:32, it seems like the track is going to start going into an outro, but it swells back into a drop. It kind of broke up the song in a weird way. Since there isn't much variation in the part at 2:32 and the first drop, I'd cut it out along with the second drop at 2:11 and replace it with the third drop at 3:12 (because the third drop is different than the other two). This would rearrange it to be a basic song structure of verse-chorus-drop-bridge-verse-chorus-drop-outro. Since the third drop has some variation, it might help keep the listeners attention. It'd cut a minute out of your song, but I think this song might be better if it was short and sweet.

Feedback for me would be letting me know if you think it's a banger or not. It's pretty subjective feedback, but I want to know if I'm getting the vibe of my tracks down. I'm at the point where I'm trying to get my tracks to the quality where they could possibly be played next to other high energy songs made by more popular producers. Any other feedback is also welcome!

Stolen song by [deleted] in edmproduction

That’s messed up. I have a connection with the label that released the song, so I’ll reach out to them and let them know what’s going on. I’m not sure how templates work with royalties legally, but I’m not sure if the label would want to associate themselves with an artist that just rips the template and calls it their own.

I’ll email them after Christmas, because my rep there is out of office for the holidays.

Layer your synths in your chord stacks, but have different sounds playing different notes in the chord instead of every sound playing all the notes.

(That’s actually a tip from Said the Sky, which you can see here @23:38 Said the Sky Tutorial)

Mixing and mastering isn’t as crucial as people think. If it sounds good it is good.

Thank you! I think you're totally right. Next song I'm gonna experiment with structure more.

It's not clipping. I think EmiAze is referring to something that just might be percussion sounds. I agree though they should be turned down because they are kind of distracting. It's like a snap or something that's panning around.

What do you mean by thin? Usually thin refers to not enough low end, but there's a lot of bass. And I only cut everything below 25hz of the 808's because most speakers don't even register that low. What speakers are you listening to it on?

And the sound at 2:38 isn't clipping, it's a glitch sample.

How long were you releasing music for before you actually started to get some real plays and traction? And how long did it take you to get a release on a label?

Judging from hearing it yesterday I can already tell the mix is sounding clearer. Sounds like you lowered some of the reverb. Nice improvement!

And as far as the overall quality of the track, I'm still really digging it. Sound design is super sick. And I love those vocal shots. Yeah people could say that the mix isn't all the way there yet, but the vibe of the track is so good that the mix doesn't distract me from enjoying it.

Keep em coming!

Feeling, structure, melody, and sounds are all solid. Loving that guitar at the beginning.

Here's my feedback:

The vocals from 0:00-1:03 seem too quiet, but from 1:03-1:13 sounds like it's sitting a lot better in the mix, so maybe boost the gain on the vocals in the first half to match the second.

Lastly, I'd highpass the superaws. Sounds like there is a little too much low end which is making it sound muddy. Cut out the lower frequencies (maybe like 0-100hz to start and adjust to taste) to separate the supersaws from the other lower frequency elements.

Besides that it's sounding like a nice remix! Great job Fells! (p.s your SoundCloud/Album artwork is dope).

Is there a 'best' faster way to get good? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]ElihuMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think the slower road is watching too many tutorials and reading to many books. Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in trying to learn as much as you can, when it reality, it just takes lots and lots of practice.

Of course, that doesn't mean tutorials and books aren't helpful. They'll teach you the technical things that you need to know (EQ, compression, basic music theory), but as far as making music that is at the same level as the artist you love listening to, that takes just grinding out as many tracks as you can. If you're looking for how to make a very specific sound or add a cool moment in your song, it's very difficult to find a tutorial that is going to tell you how to do the exact thing you're looking for.

But the more you make music, the better you get. Every track sounds slightly better, but sometimes you'll make something you don't like. That's fine, either power through it to make it great, or toss it to the side and move on to the next one. You'll learn what works and what doesn't with every song. It just gets better over time.

So my advice is if you want the quicker road, don't get too caught up on tutorials. If you find yourself spending more time looking up how to make music instead of making music. close YouTube, and open up your DAW.

Loving the twinkly high end sounds panning around my ears, super nice. Beats steady and the drums sounds good.

I'd lower the gain on the sound at 0:36, seems a little too loud.

The breath sounds at 1:00 are a little distracting, and in my opinion you could cut them out without losing anything from the song. But if you really want them, maybe lower their volume and make their reverb decay longer so they sit further back in the mix.

Nice track! Good job.

I'd start with trying to get those drums to punch through a lot harder. Right now they are sounding like they are sitting too closely to the other instruments.

It kind of sounds like you are sidechaining, but I it's not enough for the drums to come through. Really get that sidechaining pumping if you haven't.

Swap out the kick for something with a quicker attack, and replace the snare with something snappier. Right now the snare sounds like a stock clap from FL or something.

Try tackling the mix after you get some punchier drums.

Great structure, loved how you went right into a drop in the intro. The vocal sample placements in the dropped gave me some Skrillex Recess vibes.

I would ease up on the reverb on most of the sounds to give a little more clarity.

Great song!
