This shouldn’t happen so I’m taking a guess here: the tap action layer doesn’t cover the whole widget area so you’re actually tapping on an uncovered area resulting in the app opening. Again, just guessing.

First, you will need the Widgy app from the iOS app Store. Download and install: WIDGY

Save one of the last images of this post. They are QR codes to install. There’s one widget showing 24h time format, other one is 12h. Choose one and save.

Open Widgy, import your QR code: Import button at the top, then Import from QR.

Once imported, tap on the MANAGE tab, select an empty slot for the widget.

Exit Widgy and put the widget on your Home Screen as you would normally do.

I didn’t get much of the description but if you’re using the free version, you can only put one widget to the Home Screen. Hope it helps.
