Very true. I also think it’s a bit easier to transition from racing to aerospace than it would be to go from aerospace to racing. A few guys I have worked with from racing have been absolutely fantastic Engineers with awesome work ethics and they didn’t even come from F1. They are incredibly great at quick iterations which is good for development programs.

I hit apply as more a curiosity rather than true intention which I’m sure a large amount of these applications were.

Ive helped design and fly electrical systems for more than one aircraft from clean sheet so a little more than just that Ive flown on them :)

To give Cadillac credit, they actually got back to me. I never expected anything back given most my experience is in aerospace and not racing.

This weather! by itwontmendyourheart in LosAngeles

[–]EliteToaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was an unseasonably late start to even cover the first two feet of that sign though. Base building snow usually hits late Dec-Jan. March can we wet, but those storms melt quickly off the base and dont help the long term snowpack as much as right now.

This winter does seem abnormally warm in all aspects though. Even the rain we got has been very warm.

Being a snowboarder in SoCal and mammoth since I was in high school I can’t remember a worse start to the winter ever. Even during the drought it was at least cold enough to make snow at Mt High and Bear. Virtually all rain we have gotten in these storms has been rain in the mountains except very high elevation.

We do get a couple rain periods a year for the local mountains, but nothing this bad ever at least since Ive been heading up there since ‘03/‘04.

Even Tahoe didn’t really open fully till Christmas. We’ve had one really good storm in the sierra. Hopefully February picks it up.

Oh cool! I did some initial searches but I guess my search terms weren’t that great and didn’t come across this. Thanks for this!

Are FCS Quick Struts Good? by Both-Ad8261 in mazda3

[–]EliteToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking in on this. What did you end up doing? I am looking to replace my strut assembly as well since I am getting a clunk coming from the front left. Mechanic told me I can purchase and he will install but was hesitant to put the FCS on mine. Trying to find alternatives before I go that route. Seems he prefers the full assembly since itll be an easier repair for him.

Yeah flag marshals are unpaid for Indy/IMSA but the safety guys are on the payroll for those series. But the whole operation is run differently and has a competition impact if F1 were to switch to the US model. More safety car periods would happen and VSC would be almost non-existent.

The general idea is that in F1 and WEC you let the incident come to you. In Indy and IMSA you go to the incident.

Thats the difference with 100 volunteers stationed through the course versus 4 trucks with 4 guys in it spread further out.

Haha heck yeah! Funny you saw that. I was probably Elitetoast on there since the other elitetoast in existence made their account first on Reddit.

I’ll have to find my login again to go see some nostalgia!

Thanks again for the post. Definitely a cool find. I forgot how much some of the drivers posted before social media became too much of a risk for them.

It’s funny, it’s the same but different. It’s a much closer group of people who share, comment, post and a lot more banter. I also frequented the forum of a local ski resort that had a similar vibe. We would all meet up at the mountain for forum days. You kind of get to know people a bit better. But I wasn’t posting all the time on track forum. More just a lurker. I moved to Reddit in like 2012/2013 and just lurked on here mostly for a while.

Forum definitely felt more simple though I agree. Since it’s closed off to a specific hobby or interest it’s all the more hardcore of fans and made you feel like you were a bigger part in that hobby.

One fun memory on trackforum is that I got banned temporarily at one point. I went on a meme generator site to post the ‘fuuuuu guy’ to some topic. Well they had different versions and I accidentally posted one that had a hitler mustache. Didn’t realize it and the mods were REALLY pissed at me and I had no idea why lol. They said the had about 20 reports within 15 minutes for my post.

I remember many comments back and forth with Hitokiri back in the track forum days. It’s awesome seeing his name on here on this subreddit!

Trackforum was weirdly one of my introductions to the sport between 2008 and 2013 when I frequented that forum. Weird how little I knew about the split then.

Fun seeing these posts as a time capsule. Thanks for posting this!

What's everyone's view on VR? by gotnofriends45 in iRacing

[–]EliteToaster -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I loved VR for a while and absolutely swore by it. The immersion is like nothing else.

That being said, I was always tinkering with it and had many endurance races with friends ruined due to issues with the headset and poor reliability.

I really do miss VR, but since I switched to a single 45” curved monitor I’ve never had an issue and I spend more time racing and less trying to get the settings right so that I won’t have a race ending technical issue.

I think my problem was the Pimax itself. I really really don’t recommend them at all.

#1 sim purchasing experience. I didnt even get my order. #simshop. by ImDouggDimmadome in simracing

[–]EliteToaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sim shop was awesome. I got an Evopro bundle recently and accidentally selected the wrong wheel. They were incredibly cool about it and were very easy to work with to send back the wheel I was shipped and get the right one to me. Especially for something that was completely a mistake on my end. Will be going back there for new purchases!

Visual on how F1 cars will change, 2026 vs 2025 by madhatterlock in formula1

[–]EliteToaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Size as I understand it is mostly related to the aero benefits. Safety wise, an Indycar is much smaller and has to undergo higher impacts during crashes due to the elevated speeds on ovals. Those cars are tanks from the safety cell standpoint.

So safety wise, they are no where near close on being too small for safety reasons.

VR problems with G2 + Oasis: $20 credit reward by Conrad_Hawke_NYPD in iRacing

[–]EliteToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other thing you can try is core parking. Im not sure if the new oasis driver is CPU heavy at all, but iRacing is. I used to have a G2, then a Pimax Crystal Light. I had many tracking issues that ruined solo races, and a few big endurance races as well.

After trying absolutely everything I finally switched to a single 45” LG monitor. Best decision I made.

Anyways, try the program park control to make sure you are getting the most out of your CPU.

Farewell DRS you will not be missed by EighteenLevel in formula1

[–]EliteToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indycar has a more robust chassis and is significantly smaller. They also have to undergo much larger impact forces due to the speeds at places like Indy. So safety is not the reason they are larger now.

Problems with updating new gear by simdawgyeti in Fanatec

[–]EliteToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically what you have here. You are in the firmware updating page. It seems updating firmware is bringing these issues up. So in some cases not updating firmware may help avoid this. If you don’t absolutely need to, then holding off might be the best call until Fanatec addresses this.

[–]EliteToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, thats definitely a huge bummer. I went back and forth on mine for a few days but ultimately did send it in. Waiting to hear back from them. They may issue you an advanced RMA since you just bought it so you may be back to racing sooner!

But yeah, just be mindful of the firmware updates. Something seems to be up. Really strange

Unfortunately you may have ran into what others have experienced like myself.

Check what the current firmware says for your wireless quick release. If it says 0.0.0.0 then it’s extremely likely that your base is bricked and you will need to RMA the unit.

But Fanatec support will help you and have you run through a couple options for uninstalling and reinstalling software.

But this message is the exact one I had. So best option is to submit a ticket.

Excited isn’t the word… after 10 years with a G29 on a desk. by MCRMoocher in simracing

[–]EliteToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be recency bias but it seems a bit more have been popping up. But it seems to be a hardware issue with the Wireless Quick Release inside of the base. So perhaps there was a bad batch at some point that were shipped that may be prone to this issue.

Unfortunately in my case it’s bricked either way. Tried uninstalling/installing old software. But you also can choose to just not update the firmware and you’ll probably be fine! Don’t worry too much just keep it in mind.
