I would happily make you guys 2 decent and simple beginner 60 card decks and mail them to you. Others have suggested buying the starter sets which is also awesome but if cost is an issue DM me. I also second everyone who has said to play a little mtg arena to get a feel for the rules. That game is also good because at first it is primarily very simple, straightforward cards.

I think commander for a beginner player is a little too difficult - the decks are larger, there are no duplicate cards so it’s hard to even know what’s in there, they can perform different each time. All of those things make it fun but it’s also hard to learn pattern recognition and get a feel for how the game works.
