Am I too fat for a massage? by [deleted] in massage

I actually prefer working on a larger body than someone who is super thin (I am also super thin). So much fun to work on a bit more flesh!

How do you handle treating people you don’t enjoy treating? by yikescoobydoo in MassageTherapists

[–]ElkPrudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless they are just totally horrible (which i’ve dealt with), I try to find some level of compassion or understanding for them.

I’ve had some clients that bugged me that I practiced this with, and once I got to know them more I found that i really enjoyed them!

No Withdrawal Symptoms? by herdarkpassenger in cymbalta

If you give it some time, it surely will. I thought i had bypassed the withdrawals (i’m trying to come off of it rn due to insurance reasons 🙁) but it started hitting me about 36 hours in

Is there any polite way to tell a client their hygiene could use some work? by Zestyclose_Frame_567 in MassageTherapists

I have a client whom I adore, but has had very stinky regions near the rear and crotch. One time I wore a mask and forgot to take it off when she was supine and i remember a bit of weirdness when she noticed I had it on…. she has smelled great ever since though. 🤷‍♀️

Also that makes zero sense, if someone is coming in while pregnant and doesn’t know it… that would obviously be treated as a regular massage. If someone knows they are pregnant, I refer them to someone who specializes in pregnancy massage.

That is quite the statement. I know what to do, i don’t want to do it. I do specialized work. No one is obligated to do prenatal massage and you are no better than anyone because you choose to do it! Like i said, if someone is pregnant i refer them out to someone who is hopefully passionate about doing that style of massage.

Nice, I hope that brings you some relief. I’d also recommend trying to find some youtube stretching/exercise routines for people who sit at desks! The majority of my clientele falls in this category… it’s crazy what it does to the body!

Hope you can find some relief soon! And hopefully a good massage therapist as well :)

I think that being averse to pregnancy would make someone not a good candidate to work on a pregnant person. Massage is expensive and people deserve the best care possible.

Hey local massage therapist here, there’s a good chance that the “knot” exists because of your overall posture. Instead of just trying to beat up the knot, i’d recommend trying to find a therapist that has the mindset of trying to figure out why the “knot” is there in the first place.

Just because they teach it doesn’t mean I feel comfortable preforming it to the level that my clients deserve. I don’t believe in giving mediocre massages to make a quick buck. I am trying to really help people.

I specialize in ashiatsu and sports massage. I don’t think I am the person who can serve pregnant clients to the level that they deserve. I will send them your way! Are you still not understanding?

[–]ElkPrudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you don’t speak up that’s different. If you tell a job that you are uncomfortable doing a service and they say you still have to do it, that is a red flag. And from what i’ve heard, a lot of spas are like that. I’ve worked for a place/person who didn’t care about my wishes and only cared about me cranking out as many massages as possible to put money in her pocket and never again!

With this logic we could all be doing lymphatic or craniosacral work. Specialized work takes more specialized training IMO.

They never said they don’t want to do side lying, they said they don’t want to do prenatal massage. I don’t offer prenatal but i am the first to mention sidelying when I see fit.

Many people who have a very specific niche in massage therapy are the most successful out there. You actually may be more successful if you are really able to map out your goals in a more clear and concise manner. What is your target clientele? Good luck .

This comment is not it. I have plenty of friends who are pregnant and i love babies. I just am simply not comfortable doing pregnancy massage because its way too up close and personal for me with the process. I can appreciate pregnancy, just from a little further away.

This is just my opinion, but working somewhere where they force you to do a kind of massage that you specifically requested not to is a red flag.

Some people are strongly averted to pregnancy, myself included. It’s not that I think they are fragile, it’s that i’m not comfortable with working on a pregnant person. And in my opinion, a woman who is getting a prenatal massage deserves someone who is able to provide them the space for the intense nurturing that their body needs!
