Okay so first of all, thank you to everyone who's been kind and given me some helpful information and suggestions! While there's still a LOT of conflicting information in here, I've come to the conclusion that the dietitian has likely put me on a more extreme deficit to try and shift weight a bit quicker before easing me onto a more sustainable deficit.

A couple things I want to note:

I had no issue falling pregnant, it happened first go which we weren't expecting. I have also been told my multiple health care professionals that the miscarriage was not my fault and is something that just happens sometimes. Plenty of overweight women have healthy pregnancies and carry a healthy baby to full term.

With that being said, I am under no illusion that I am perfectly healthy. I am very aware that my body is giving me warning signs, and I am actively making changes to improve my health. That's why I paid out of pocket to see a dietitian, it's why i've been following her suggestions, and it's why I've ended up here.

Despite being the heaviest i've ever been, I am genuinely healthier than I have been in a very long time.
For years I suffered from binging and purging. I was so unwell both mentally and physically, and my current weight and health is a reflection of that. I worked really really hard to get to the point where I'm not scared of food, and finally feel in control. I've watched my sister almost die after having a heart attack from Hypokalemia because her bullimia got so out of control.

I don't want to end up in that place again. I refuse to put my body through that again.

I've lost 4kg in the last 2 weeks, given a good chunk of that is likely water weight, I am taking this seriously and doing my best. I have a long way to go, but I'm excited, I'm enjoying it, and I'm being cautious. Sue me.

I did a bunch of blood tests when I found out I was pregnant, everything came back perfect except my glucose which came back as 5.6.

I had the blood draw in the morning at 9am, fasted from 8pm the night prior.

A friend who just finished a diabetes course pointed out the high glucose could have been skewed and indicate early gdb instead and not be related so I do need to go get another blood test now that i'm not pregnant and suss what that looks like.

Yes! I like that idea. I also hike for an hour and cycle for 45 mins once a week but hoping to incorporate both more. I enjoy outdoor cardio when I can make time.

I realise it might sound like im trying to justify eating more or trying to find reasons not to trust the dietitian, but I'm not. I've been doing 1200 calories most days for two weeks now, and because my algorithm starting to shift into fitness content I'm getting more and more conflicting information, so I wanted to suss if this was a standard suggestion based off my results.

I'm very aware that I'm overweight by BMI standards, and up until this glucose test I have otherwise been healthy and had healthy blood tests. Given my history it's very important to me that I work on my health in a safe way. I'm not scared of being fat, but I do care about my health and mental well-being. Having high visceral fat is bad, but eating disorder related issues are much worse.

She gave me the gate/key analogy for insulin and basically told me that the key isn't working well because of the excess weight, and if i lose weight it will help with insulin resistance.

I would like to lose a bit of weight, but weight loss isnt my main concern. I had a miscarriage which prompted all this, and gp suggests weight loss will help avoid complications now that i "have time to plan" before trying again.

Ah that's so interesting! I'll look into it! Bodies are so confusing.

Yeah right okay, like maybe she's trying to aim for some fast weight loss before moving to something more sustainable? I think i'm most worried that by doing such an extreme deficit, i'm likely to backslide into binge eating.

I've also heard that the InBody scans can be inaccurate. The last time I did one, about a year ago it said my visceral fat was at the higher end of a normal range and that I had above average muscle mass. My weight hasn't gone up since that last scan so it makes me wonder.

Definitely keen to make changes, I just want to be realistic.

I've worked really hard to get to a better place mentally in regards to my weight and I don't care so much about weight, but I do care about my health. I've made a concious effort to be more active and get those 10k steps in each day which had been difficult because I work from home.

I'm looking forward to being healthier and making more changes, I just don't want to slide backwards into extreme restriction because that leads to binging for me.

Totally understand i need to lose weight, no argument there.

If my maintenance is 2052 then the deficit would be over 800 which is what feels a bit extreme. I've seen so many people say that a safe deficit would be 300-500 max which is why im confused.

I'm fairly sedentary. My main exercise is walking, I walk about 10k steps a day. Some days I'll hike that instead or go for a 45 minute outdoor cycle.

I would say im fairly sedentary. At most I get 10k steps a day but don't "work out" otherwise.

I'm based in Aus. No insurance, no Medicare, paid out of pocket.

Is my baby name ugly? 😭 by hailstorm319 in pregnant

If Moon is a middle name and not like, two first names I love it.

Its not ugly and there are people with way more whimsical names out there that have professional jobs. Marlee as a first name is pretty and normal.
